The Apostle Peter seems to understand Isaiah 53 as pointing to the Savior, at least in his 1st Epistle anyway, yes?
Isaiah 53
5 He was pierced through for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities;
The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,
And by His scourging we are healed.
6 All of us like sheep have gone astray,
Each of us has turned to his own way;
But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all
To fall on Him.
1 Peter 2
24 He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.
25 For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.
Quite frankly, I would be hard-pressed to understand certain passages, like Isaiah 53:5-6, as being written about the Nation of Israel, even w/o the help that we get from passages like the one above from 1 Peter.
God bless you!!
