What does this Scripture say?

Is it true that all who call upon the Name of the LORD shall be saved?

Much love!

how do you explain?
Romans 13:11
And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

Yes, it makes a difference. I now see how others view water baptism.

You said that "Some say this one baptism is water baptism, and some say this is the spiritual baptism..".

Just to be clear: MOST Christian churches teach that water baptism IS the One Baptism and then there are SOME that teach it is spiritual baptism. You fall into the camp of "some".

The spiritual baptism teaching is a new teaching not heard of by Christianity until recently. So why did God hide this "truth" from us for so long?

Mary

It's been there all the time! It's nothing new, but there are not as Godly men as you think who over the centuries have fallen on their knees begging God for the truth, who have placed the truth over all else.

As I have said in my posts, the truth was hidden from us in the Old Testament and revealed in the New.

But further hidden by way of the Pentecostal Movement.

The truth is in the Scripture for everyone find, if God finds the true heart He can trust it with!

1 Peter 1:3-5 KJV
3) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4) To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
5) Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

Romans 8:22-23 KJV
22) For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
23) And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 KJV
23) And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

so “faith alone” and baptism is meaningless???
Baptism is like the ring in the wedding ceremony. It is a symbol. All believers should be baptized as we are instructed in the Bible and Jesus set the example for us.

Are you aware that some people can read? This includes non-Catholics.

I love how the Bible is a very figurative book. ‘Born of water’ or ‘not eyes to see’ or ‘as many descendants as grains of sand’ or ‘we are one’ are all non-literal expressions.

Make a Blessed Day!

what about Jn 3:22 actions speak louder than words!

Yes, John said He "will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire"! In Scripture fire is equated to the Holy Spirit. They are one in the same. When we are baptized we receive the Holy Spirit.

What I meant by "new" is that this teaching that there is a Holy Spirit baptism ONLY, without water, is not true. It is a new teaching from after the Reformation....best I can tell. There is not one instance in Scripture of baptism of the Holy Spirit only.

In Scripture you never see one without the other. When one is water baptized you receive the Holy Spirit. The story of Cornelus and his companions in Acts 10 is the one time in the New Testament that anyone is described as receiving the Holy Spirit prior to water baptism. This is considered simply an exceptional case. But, as you can see, even in that one exception water and Holy Spirit go hand in hand. Not only in the NT but even in the OT: Water and Spirit Gen 1. Water and Spirit (pillar of fire) when the Israelites go thru the Red Sea in Exodus 14.

John said he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Show me one passage that fulfills that statement.

You say it's nothing new and has been there all the time! Why did God wait hundreds and hundreds of years to reveal it to Christianity? I mean after all, what you have said is a teaching that has only been around a few hundred years.

Acts 1:4-5 KJV
4) And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
5) For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Acts 2:1-4 KJV
1) And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2) And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3) And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 11:15-16 KJV
15) And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.
16) Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

Here are two . . .

Jn 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

vs 22 After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.

baptismal regeneration is the initiation into the KINGDOM!

Redemption, Justification, Sanctification, and Salvation!

Redemption: 100 percent the work of God, thru the life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ! All mankind are redeemed in Christ! Eph 2
Galatians 2:16 3:13
Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law...
Christ alone accomplished the redemption of mankind apart from any works on our part!

(Redemption is not Salvation)
Rom 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

Justification: our acceptance of redemption thru faith and baptism! Become a disciple and member of Christ and His Church! Jn 3:5 acts 2:38 Mk 16:16 He who believes and is baptized shall be saved. 1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. Galatians 3:27
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Sanctification: the life of grace in the holy sacrifice of the mass and sacraments, prayer, virture, and good works, the just living by faith, and faith working thru love! Phil 1:29 called to suffer with Christ.
All done in Christ thru His grace! Jn 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Salvation: a christian in the state if grace at the moment of death we enter into the salvation of the Lord! Mt 24:44-47 faithful servant! Jn 15:1-5 abide in me. Mt 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
Heb 3:14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;
Heb 6:11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:
Heb 4:14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;
Rom 13:11 ...for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

Suffering required for glorification with Christ!

Romans 8:17
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

2 Timothy 2:12
If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

Justification and salvation are not the same rom 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

Oh, man--I have got to quote you on this!

Catholics are deficient of the Pauline Letters. They honor him at face value only, not knowing anything he taught.

The New Covenant is a mystery to them. The Church keeps this knowledge from them as they have done for centuries.

The Lord can break that barrier, I've seen it done! We have to be patient and helpful. But I admit my patience runs short at times.

Just proof I have not apprehended, as Paul would say.

A sacrament is an oath! A sacred promise from God! Ez 36:25-27
Acts 2:38-39 (this promise)

A sacrament is an outward sign for all men including infants And a gift from God to help us see what he does inwardly and invisibly by his grace!

As grace Washes our souls in the merits of Jesus blood from original and personal sin, so the outward action of washing is visible!

without the outward action the inward action cannot take place!

Jn 3:5 Titus 3:5 water and washing
acts 22:16 wash away your sin!

Jn 3:5 Born again BY water and the spirit! Not by “faith alone”!

They did not go to Jerusalem and preach “accept Christ as you’re personal Lord and savior “

They went to the river (water) and they baptized! Jn 3:22

A covenant requires an outward sign of the inward action of grace!

Ez 36:25 I will sprinkle you with clean water and you shall be made white as snow.

Acts 22:16 washing away your sins.

Eph 4:5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism.

1 pet 3:21 baptism saves you.

You cannot enter on you’re own or by faith alone!

2 pet 1: 11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Heb 2:11 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

Baptism!

God breathed life into Adam, gen 2:7 and we received this life from our fathers!

Christ breathed on the apostles our spiritual fathers, we receive the new covenant life of God’s grace from them thru faith & baptism! Jn 20:21-23 Mk 16:16 acts 8:36-38 eph 2

Born again! Born from above!

'The Father has set his seal' on Christ (John 6:27) and also seals us in him (cf. 2 Corinthians 1:22; Ephesians 1:23, 4:30). Because this seal indicates the indelible effect of the anointing with the Holy Spirit in the sacrament of Baptism,

Baptism indeed is the seal of eternal life." 87 The faithful Christian who I has "kept the seal" until the end, remaining faithful to the demands of his Baptism, will be able to depart this life "marked with the sign of faith," 88 with his baptismal faith, in expectation of the blessed vision of God - the consummation of faith - and in the hope of resurrection.

St. Paul tells the faithful at Ephesus that they have been “sealed with the promised Holy Spirit.” This is in terms of an indelible character imprinted on the soul in the sacraments of baptism and confirmation. It is not as if this invisible mark is simply decorative. Rather, through it, we are enabled to participate in Christ’s mission and in his offices of priest, prophet, and king. Eph 1:13

Sealed by God eph 1:13 sealed by God (ez 36:25-27) in the ark of salvation by baptism just as Noah was sealed by God in the ark of the flood gen 7:16

1 Pet 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us!
(Ark of Noah a type of the church, member of Christ and his church and salvation by baptism!)
(Outside the ark of Noah none were saved, outside the church (the ark of salvation) none are saved!)

Sealed in the ark, sealed in the church the ark of salvation by God thru baptism!

Christ instituted the holy church for the salvation of all men, (repent and believe the gospel, with the institution of the sacraments to convey grace to sanctify souls!

Effects of faith & baptism!

Ez 36:25-27 washed in baptism, with a new heart and the Spirit
Jn 3:5 born again in baptism
Mk 16:16 faith & baptist
Acts 2:38 repentance & baptism
Acts 8:36-38 faith & baptism
Acts 22:16 baptism washes away sin
Rom 6:3 died with Christ
Col 2:12 risen with Christ
1 cor 12:13 baptized into the church
Gal 3:27 by baptism put on Christ
2 Tim 1:10 eph 2:1 and 5 brought to life
2 cor 5:17 new creation
Eph 1:13 sealed by the Holy Spirit
Eph 4:5 one baptism
Eph 5:26 faith and baptism
Titus 3:5 baptismal regeneration
1 pet 1:2 washed in Christ’s blood
1 pet 2:9 the kingdom of light
1 pet 3:20-21 baptism saves us!

“Faith alone” accomplishes nothing!
1 cor 13:2 even all faith (alone) without charity avails NOTHING!!!

Faith and baptism!

Scripture says none of the things about “Faith alone”!

2 Peter 1:11
For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

The Christian sacrament of baptism is the Initiation into the new covenant and must be ministered to you by the apostles!

“Faith alone”

Questions

where does scripture says we have died with Christ by “faith alone”?

Rom 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

where does scripture say we are members of Christ and his church by “faith alone”?

1 Corinthians 12:13
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

where does scripture says we put on Christ by “faith alone”?

Galatians 3:27
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Where does scripture say our sins are washed away by “faith alone”?

Acts 22:16
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

where does scripture say we are saved or justified by “faith alone”?

1 pet 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us!

The only reference in scripture to “faith alone” is James 2:24 NOT BY “FAITH ALONE”?

2 pet 1: 11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

How can you enter by your own if it must be ministered to you? Baptism is done unto you, “not do it yourself by faith alone”

Jn 3:5 born again by faith alone?

Where is “Accept Christ as your personal lord & savior” is found in scripture?

They did not go preaching this line but went immediately to the river and baptized Jn 3:22

Acts 22:16
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

1 Corinthians 12:13
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Galatians 3:27
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Eph 4:5 one baptism

Why don’t it say one teeny tiny little act of “faith alone”???

When we first believed we are saved?

Romans 13:11
And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

How can salvation be nearer than when we first believed if you’re saved by believing?

1 pet 1:9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

Matt 24:13 endures to the end Shall be saved.

How can salvation happen when we first believed if it’s the end?

If salvation is by “faith alone” then faith would be the greatest!
1 cor 13:13 charity is the greatest!

Even all faith much less “faith alone” without charity avails nothing!
1 cor 13:2

Faith alone” unbiblical!

WATER AND THE SPIRIT!
Baptismal regeneration is the biblical mandate!!!

Hey Nancy,

We are saved by grace through faith. But there are many other things that Scripture says we must do to be saved: Repentance (Acts 2:38, 2 Peter 3:9), declaring with our mouths (Luke 12:8, Romans 10:9) etc etc.....I know that you know the other things, so I won't continue.

I get the gist of your opinion when you say that water baptism is an outward confession. But Scripture makes it clear that it is more than just that. It brings the Holy Spirit upon you and washes away your sin. Water baptism....for a lack of better words....kills the old self and gives us a new life in Him. Water baptism is NECESSARY to achieve all those things AND we must do what He and the Apostles told us to do! Therefore, it is a REQUIREMENT to get water baptized.

Mary
Oh I do know that Jesus did command us to get baptized, and boy did I get wet! in the middle of a very cold winter too, brrrr.
My mother switched us to Lutheran when I was like 13 or 14. I also did get baptized as an infant in the Catholic church but, I don't remember that of course!
I agree that when we proclaim Christ outwardly when being water baptized we also receive His Spirit because we repent before being baptized (Don't think you believe that tho). Far as the baptism of the Holy Spirit, I cannot really say much as I do not and never have spoken in "tongues", my conversion was without sensationalism, no flames of fire over my head, no mass healings and driving out of demons just an orderly gentle and sweet event. Did try a Pentecostal church once and they really tried hard to push me over (slain in the Spirit, NO WHERE in the bible) All spoke gibberish at the same time, chaos.
Thank you for the reply.
