Fwiw the Speaking the truth in love passage is not one I would apply to myself, as much as I might like to. Or maybe I should say that it does not apply to your "we" like we would surely like to think? The surrounding vv in the passage maybe make that clearer. I think the point there was that you would have to first believe you know the truth in order to claim that? You would iow be deceived?

Pearl, I'm sorry that you feel I've been unkind to JJ. There was no anger in my heart at him and I have become quite fond of him. Its unfortunate that you read an entire thread and pull one word out of that entire thread and focus on it, rather than where someone's heart seems to be.

Its unfortunate that: "numbskull " is being mean in your view. Its unfortunate that: "numbskull " is something you think puts me in danger of hellfire. Its unfortunate that you judge a man by one word, said jokingly. Its just really unfortunate.

The thread has been here for days. At any time, you could have stepped in to speak with the man, who is having a hard time of late. Don't chide a person who has cared enough about his hurt to spend three days of her time with him and who thinks he's worth every minute of that time.

Its all just very unfortunate.

Truth without legalism is the only way. Otherwise, you're inching toward bondage again rather than freedom. That's okay. We were each giving our thoughts, we weren't angry, and we didn't harm each other. The result should hopefully be a moving closer together in unity in love in the Spirit, even IF we still disagree or if we each tempered the other. :)

I hit the sauce hard when I was younger and was a bartender for...20 years or so. When I quit bartending I just mostly quit drinking, but it wasn't a plan or anything, I just wasn't around that whole scene any more. I actually used to drink about 2-3 six packs every night. And no one ever thought I was drunk! Towards the end there though, I was kind of having...walking blackouts, because my tolerance for it was so high that I drank more and more. And yet, everyone thought I was fine and didn't know I wasn't remembering how I got home or what I did afterwards! And in all of that, I wasn't an alcoholic. Which is hard to believe, but true.
