The Cross is the completion of the priesthood, not the end of the priesthood per say, but the fulfillment according to the Lord God’s satisfaction. Why the priesthood? Why a kingdom of priests?
Exo 19:6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
If you remember the kings and political authorities didn’t feel threatened by Jesus, the priesthood of Israel did. and it was the priesthood that carried out the persuasion of the political powers the political expedience that Jesus should be crucified, but the political powers did not see a threat to their positions.
So, this was all about the priesthood. And all things priesthood. And the fulfillment of the priesthood according to the Lord God of Israel.
Even the bread and the wine and what they represent in association with Adam and Noah. Here the first place bread is mentioned with:
Gen_3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
Here the first place wine is mentioned with:
Gen 9:20 And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard:
Gen 9:21 And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.
And the second place bread and wine is mentioned with:
Gen_14:18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.
