Paul visited James and the brothers in Jerusalem in Acts 21. They updated him of the accusation against him, Berean Literal Bible:

21 ""Now they have been informed about you, that you teach all Jews among the Gentiles apostasy from Moses, telling them not to circumcise the children nor to walk in the customs."
They accused Paul of teaching rebellion against Judaism/Moses.

Strong's Greek: 646. ἀποστασία (apostasia) — 2 Occurrences

BDAG:

defiance of established system or authority, rebellion, abandonment, breach of faith
2 Thessalonians 2:

3 No one should deceive you in any way, because it is not until the apostasy shall have come first, and the man of lawlessness shall have been revealed—the son of destruction, 4 the one opposing and exalting himself above every so-called god or object of worship—so as for him to sit down in the temple of God, setting forth that he himself is God.
There will be a future rebellion/apostasy against Christ.

New King James Version:

Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,
More accurately, the Greek refers to the apostasy/rebellion.

Tony,

The APOSTASIA in and of itself does not refer to a falling away from the faith. In Acts 21 the context is falling away from Moses, but the modification of "falling away from Moses" is given because APOSTASIA does not mean that by itself. You will not find one use of the word APOSTASIA, in the Bible, or extra biblical Greek where it means falling away from the faith. You can see that for yourself by searching the word in the tlg database. APOSTASIA is not a technical term.

You might want to check my previous post about the APOSTASIA and its use in 1 Tim 4.1. Once again, APOSTASIA has to be modified by a phrase 'depart from the faith' because APOSTASIA by itself only means DEPARTURE FROM _____________.

Defining APOSTASIA as falling from the faith is a Post-Trib invention. In fact, the Subject of 2 Thes 2 is "our gathering together to him." Note that APOSTASIA is used within this context. It is not modified by any phrase, so it only means departure from ____________. The Rapture is the Subject in vs 1 "our gathering together to him." In vs 7, it is the Restrainer being taken away. The second chapter of 2 Thes is about a departure from ___________.

In case you are skeptical, I highly recommend you look at 20 random uses of APOSTASIA in the tlg database and see how APOSTASIA requires a modifier to complete its meaning. You will not find one use of APOSTASIA by itself. It is only used with a modifier.
