It is with shame I think of my belly aching and whining about losing power for several days, when I see Chimney Rock, NC with such devastation, as well as other cities. I sat, thought and searched for any answers I can find in God's word for any explanation of this disaster, especially on those of God's own. Maybe these passages from God's word will help God's people think, pray and deal with this disaster. Also, we believers can visit sites such as Samaritan's Purse.
"As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man who had been born blind. His disciples asked him, 'Teacher, whose sin caused him to be born blind? Was it his own or his parents' sin?' Jesus answered, 'His blindness has nothing to do with his sins or his parents' sins. He is blind so that God's power might be seen at work in him.'" (John 9:1-3 GNB92) *Interesting thought, how could man blind from birth commit sin before his birth?
"Peter said to him, 'Ananias, why did you let Satan take control of you and make you lie to the Holy Spirit by keeping part of the money you received for the property? Before you sold the property, it belonged to you; and after you sold it, the money was yours. Why, then, did you decide to do such a thing? You have not lied to people—you have lied to God!' As soon as Ananias heard this, he fell down dead; and all who heard about it were terrified. (Acts 5:3-5 GNB92)
"People of Israel, listen to this message which the LORD has spoken about you, the entire nation that he brought out of Egypt: 'Of all the nations on earth, you are the only one I have known and cared for. That is what makes your sins so terrible, and that is why I must punish you for them.... Does the war trumpet sound in a city without making the people afraid? Does disaster strike a city unless the LORD sends it?'" (Amos 3:1-2, 6 GNB92)
“I am the LORD; there is no other god. I will give you the strength you need, although you do not know me. I do this so that everyone from one end of the world to the other may know that I am the LORD and that there is no other god. I create both light and darkness; I bring both blessing and disaster. I, the LORD, do all these things." (Isa 45:5-7 GNB92)
"You plotted evil against me, but God turned it into good, in order to preserve the lives of many people who are alive today because of what happened." (Gen 50:20 GNB92)
"We know that in all things God works for good with those who love him, those whom he has called according to his purpose." (Rom 8:28 GNB92)
Job is well known and recognized as an example of a good and righteous man who suffered, and not for any sin of his own.
Is there One perfectly righteous Person who suffered for the evil and sin of many others while not having any sin of His own?
