I have a growing suspicion that cryptocurrency was created specifically to launder the monumental profits of the illicit drug trade, but I have no access to any insider information to see one way or the other. I have been watching TV productions like "Narcos" and the drug trade went global decades ago bringing in so much cash that law enforcement has stumbled on wearhouses full of cash, all of which can be laundered through deposits converted to cryptocurrency.
Even the legalized cannabis industry in the states, has problems with conventional banking because federal law is still opposed to the industry, so they make broad use of cryptocurrency to hide transactions.
