Yes and no, really, to me it's one and the same.Again, we must differentiate between honoring leaders and obeying every word they say. Two different things.
Truth goes hand in hand with love. If someone hopes to turn another from darkness, their evil deeds being whitewashed is not conducive with love. Now as for hoping to somehow turn the Antichrist from darkness to light, no. I would not put any hope in that, but as I was saying, there are other reasons for being model citizens in how we speak of leaders. I still need to post that, so let me do that first when I get back, and I'll come back to you on this.
Well said!Truth goes hand in hand with love. If someone hopes to turn another from darkness, their evil deeds being whitewashed is not conducive with love.
I understand concerns people have about media which involves news agendas, motives and intentions. I will explain the non-judgmental position I like:They are usually the worst examples for Christians to follow, yet many do, possibly because they have been sucked into the entertainment industry that today's news media has become. They are TRYING to generate bias and animosity, because it keeps them in business and prospering. It's like televised click bait.
To make my own position clear, Dev, I am all for Christians being informed and discussing the ins and outs, the pros and the conns, in order to make responsible decisions and be informed and conscientious voters. I just think that the NT commands us to do so respectfully, in order again to turn darkness to light.
Since we have the bible telling us inspired words from the Holy Spirit then a rebuke based on biblical truth is justifiable.Ah, now this is a different matter. The scriptures never taught not to correct or rebuke a leader by the Spirit of God when the Lord called a prophet to do so. That would be to say that God Himself could not address a leader over their sins, and it would place them on a level above mere human beings, which they are not.
God could address leaders through the prophets with rebukes and even chastisements on occasion. The problem here is some could presume to be a prophet and speak for God when they were only speaking from their flesh. I think the command for you and I was to honor them in our prayers to turn them from evil to good.
Well if by slander you mean:Greetings all, and blessings to all.
I'm a member on staff at another Christian forum, and this topic has come up for conversation recently. I vacillated for awhile on both sides, but after actually studying the scriptures I came to the conclusion that the real New Testament answer was no. I will put it up for debate here and see what everyone has to say. As for myself, the result was a Bible study I posted there and am now posting here at CB in a slightly different format. I pray our discussion is fruitful and honest in search of the truth together.
Blessings in Christ to all who wish to respond.

Overcoming "Evil" With Good: The Christian Response To Politics Wrote this study out at another forum recently, and thought I would post it here. Responses are welcome, Hidden In Him Another Presidential election is almost here in the United States, and the ugliness and vitriol are at...www.christianityboard.com
Remember we battle not against flesh and blood but against powers and principalities. So evil men and women gain power and abuse their authority, often in detriment to the righteous. But those people are not solely responsible, the evil spirits backing them are responsible.Ok, let's take a different tack then, approach it from a different angle, and put things to a test. 1 Peter 2:17 says this, "Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king." and 1 Timothy 2:1-2 says, "I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority." Both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are now in authority over their respective parties, and one is about to become the next President of the United States.
Give me an example of how you each would honor them - not just one but both - at the current time. What specific words would you use in obedience to the scriptural commands to honor them and/ or give thanks for them?
NASB (UPDATED) TEXT: 1 PETER 2:13-17Remember we battle not against flesh and blood but against powers and principalities. So evil men and women gain power and abuse their authority, often in detriment to the righteous. But those people are not solely responsible, the evil spirits backing them are responsible.
Granted there are those who seek power by aligning themselves with these dark forces. They should be prayed against, for the purpose of confounding their schemes. But most of, or even all may be unwitting pawns in a larger battle. These should be prayed for, that they would repent.
That's my opinion.
How would you Honor Joe Biden, or Kamila Harris or Joe Walz?Ok agreed. But again, the NT mentality was that we also helped do something about it by being the most model citizens we could be, so that even if they treated us wickedly, their hearts might be turned and see that we had done nothing to deserve it. This was Peter's point with the following:
Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king... what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God.... Sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; 16 having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed.
In other words, we were helping our situation by silencing the accusations of wicked men through righteous conduct.
Paul quoted from that in Acts 23
No, we are not to curse people, leave that up to God.
Yes. So much of evil governance results in people lying for fear of serious repercussions. This happened in communist countries. It is happening today for those trying to stand up to tyranny. Anarchy has become a tool for the empowered, a tool for terror, to enforce compromising ideals.Yes and no, really, to me it's one and the same.
If we obey sinful orders we enable the one so ordering, and that's not good for them. And of course it's not good for anyone affected by said orders. So in the best interest of all, out of love for them, we should not obey sinful orders, so that we are giving a testimony of righteousness and truth, that hopefully they will see, and reconsider, and repent.
Though historically generally this just gets people killed.
But the Lord is pleased when we honor Him even above our own lives.
Much love!
Listening to Christian radio today, they were quoting what Zachariah prophesied of John at His birth.Truth goes hand in hand with love. If someone hopes to turn another from darkness, their evil deeds being whitewashed is not conducive with love.
I have prayed that IF certain politicians are human and therefore, created in His image, He will do whatever is needed to bring them to salvation. I also pray that God will deliver His people out of the hands of the wicked.
