Being a Christian to me is that I will be with Jesus when my life is over.
There is enough proof that Jesus was born in a winter month. The planets themselves testify to it. The star of Bethlehem would be an evening star in the winter and a morning star in the spring time. When the start reappeared the Wiseman know from the prophecies approximately where to look for the King of Kings. The King who had been born at the first sighting of the star.
Can one celebrate and study at the same time?
The way I celebrate Christmas is a study of the bible. Studying the prophecies and the fact of the birth. The earthly Christmas celebration does tend to be a distraction but it is also an opportunity. Not because we are celebrating the birth but because we celebrate sharing knowledge of the birth.
This can be debated to death but for many many people their first true knowledge of the bible comes from the celebration of a holiday. The door that is opened in these celebration holidays is door that may never shut.
To me denying the holiday is a method to control or channel thought! Thoughts that may challenge the status quo of the gathering.
That is why by using the the Bible that the JWs claim to stand on taken from their hand, so it is their bible not my bible has sent them almost screaming from my door. I challenged the most basic tenement of their faith, that they are following the Bible! Yet that tenement didn’t stand a test of the bible.
So I will conclude that the JW doesn't allow holidays because those that use those holidays to closely study a section of belief are dealing with knowledge that the Watchtower has to keep hidden. One can throw a broad net and be anything but when one sorts through what the net caught? There are as many meaningful explanations as there are fish caught. Well those explanations let the net hold?
Again from the rapid exit from one gateway I have to answer NO!
