@FluffyYellowDuck Technically it is, but also a rather benign one, a bit like ear piercing, and ppl wouldn't normally back off getting their ears pierced just because it is technically an injury. (Similarly with tattoos, right?)The body sees it as an injury and tries to heal it.
@Truman I guess the six-pointed star would be a reference to the Magen David on the Israeli flag, right?A cross and a 6-pointed star.
@Wynona I suppose that it could all be part of wider discussions about femininity such as about chewing gum and pants, etc.! According to statistics, even more women use tattoo parlors in North America than men do.Although I dislike tattoos, that one's okay as far as they go.
I know my version of femininity doesn't appeal to everyone but I look best with simplicity.
@FluffyYellowDuck So was your mom surprised at all when you got your tattoo and nose ring that you mentioned? :)My mom went to beauty school, so these things were taught earlier.

(Does your dh have any fixed views on tattoos for women, maybe?)
@Wynona Thanks for your comment; and of course you need to follow your convictions. It's interesting that the immediate context seems to suggest pagan necromancy; and an adjacent verse seems to say about not trimming beards; do preachers shave? if they do, they are maybe making a backhanded comment about being New Testament believers under grace, rather than Old Testament Jews under the law in the land, with their bushy beards..... I always think of the phrase in Deuteronomy or Leviticus where God commands the Israelites not to make cuttings or marks on their skin.
I know the argument against that is that those laws were for that people at that time. After all, I eat pork and shellfish.
But that's the main reason why I won't get a tattoo.
So then look also at the NT sister. You are a only steward over your body, not an owner. You may also be an heir, but an heir has only a promise until and if he actually inherits. In the meantime what kind of a steward you are is important to God and needs to be important to you:Don't hate me for this, but I always think of the phrase in Deuteronomy or Leviticus where God commands the Israelites not to make cuttings or marks on their skin.

@amadeus I guess all the young people with Bible verse tattoos with whom I have talked and who have seemingly had them done for evangelistic reasons, would think that the intention was indeed to glorify God.So then look also at the NT sister. "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are." I Cor 3:16-17
"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." I Cor 6:19-20
I will agree that God uses many things to accomplish His purposes but I do strongly disagree with pressing people to accept so easily that tattoos, even Christian based tattoos must be in God's will for them... The pressing is what I see here by the very existence of this thread. Without you would it even exist?@amadeus I guess all the young people with Bible verse tattoos with whom I have talked and who have seemingly had them done for evangelist reasons, would think that the intention was indeed to glorify God.

@Wynona Thanks for this comment also; would you also have any observation about the fact that all the young people with Bible verse tattoos with whom I have talked and who have seemingly had them done for evangelistic reasons, with the apparent intention to glorify God?Thanks for pointing out those verses. I couldn't explain my unease with tattoos very well. Now there's more clarity in my spirit.

Thanks, @Wynona . Did you also see my post #1363, above, with an imaginary but realistic dialogue? Some of the cautionary element of what you say is reflected in the dialogue I posted.I think wanting to evangelize and glorify God are good. But you don't need a tattoo to do that.
If I had to advise Christians today, I'd advise them to witness first and foremost by leading a Holy life, different than others around them. You just need that and a desire to reach people and tell them about Jesus.
Nope! I got my nose stud when I was 18 - she took me and my tattoo was a gift from her, if I remember correctly.@FluffyYellowDuck So was your mom surprised at all when you got your tattoo and nose ring that you mentioned? :)
