In other words, you don't even accept that there are things that are subjective and cultural that different Christians in different places will have honestly different impressions about. For observant readers: God's Word is not subjective, nor cultural. God's Word is Truth. Jesus Praises the Father for REVEALING this (everything concerning SALVATION)
to little children,
and for hiding this from (so-called) educated ones.
Thank you! For me... he was a good fellow, even though for others, including my wife, he was hard to take. He died before this thing of separating distance came into play. Perhaps that is why God called him at the time, for I suspect he would have struggled to bind himself according the rule of distance and mask. The Lord showed me a lot through that man! Give God the glory!Sorry for the recent loss of your Christian friend. May his memory and testimony be blessed.
Does this lack of "theologizing" on this or any issue automatically make it right in the eyes of God? The majority has never had the final say with regard to the things of God. God, as I understand it, looks at each heart. This includes looking closely at each person and what he has knowingly done with regard to another person. We are our brother's keeper or should be! Our director should never be our own self... unless we have already overcome completely as Jesus did.@Josho Everyone is different; at the small conservative local church where my wife and I have attended for a while, most of the young men/boys in attendance seemed habitually to wear earrings and no one — no one — has tried to "theologize" this to become supposedly inappropriate.
I think most of all of the Gospel as the rule of the believer's life: deciding to give those various young men, who have been willing to come to meetings to hear the Word of God, a hard time merely because of their earrings (it's a very widespread custom, and has been for a long time) would likely have the effect of driving them away from hearing the Word of God.Does this lack of "theologizing" on this or any issue automatically make it right in the eyes of God? People who are hard hearted and/or do not understand God message may drive someone away from a particular meeting in a given assembly but who can drive away from God someone who is really hungry and thirsty for His righteousness? If your assembly had treated them wrong, it would have been on their own heads, but it would not have caused such young men away God. It has not occurred to anyone - anyone - to give them a hard time.
You are talking about people, not God in people. A carnal person can be changed, one way or the other, but God cannot be changed. Don't try to put man's frailties and failures and mistakes on God. They don't fit.! When a person who really has received the gift of the Holy Spirit begin to treat others in the wrong way, he is quenching the Holy Spirit... People should not do this, but at times they most certainly do!In other words, you don't even accept that there are things that are subjective and cultural that different Christians in different places will have honestly different impressions about.

SIN is still a WIDESPREAD custom, everywhere.I think most of all of the Gospel as the rule of the believer's life: deciding to give those various young men, who have been willing to come to meetings to hear the Word of God, a hard time merely because of their earrings (it's a very widespread custom, and has been for a long time) would likely have the effect of driving them away from hearing the Word of God.

Actually a lot of Christians like rock; and Disciple's Battle Lines is very effective with hard hitting Biblical lyrics.2 threads promoting hard Rock music.
Two threads promoting smoking
@Giuliano I agree; it used to be a rite of passage for girls, and still is. It's also long been a rite of passage for a lot of boys now, as well.I don't think it matters. I had my ears pierced when I was younger. I don't know if the holes have grown shut or not.
@Giuliano Good post! :)Giving a ring to your spouse surely couldn't be called loving the things in the world, could it? I read it the other way -- that the ring means you're giving up pursuing lust with other partners and being faithful with the person you marry.
Are you dodging the question whether wedding rings are wrong?
@Helen, Males generally do both now, don't they? and often women who would in the past do one each side, often do two each side now, don't they? We have to recognize that it's widespread all round now. And benign.I quite like males with ear rings...either one or both...
If the right way to do things was "manifestly self-evident" to any who were seek His Way, God would not have needed to send Jesus to be crucified. It would not have been necessary to pour out His Spirit on all flesh. It would have been a lie for Jeremiah to have penned these words:All this seems manifestly self-evident, anyway.

and there is nothing remotely unusual about what Helen says. Nothing remotely unusual for wives or moms to give their blessing if their men or boys think of doing it.I quite like males with ear rings...either one or both...
