Yes, asserting oneself by getting tattooed (about whatever theme) is all about sending your own personal message in a really strong way, isn't it?

I'm guessing she probably has a good hand on the tattoo machine, right? I think women often make especially good tattoo artists not least if they have a suitable, gentle hand on the machine.

Anyway, from when years ago the profession was men-dominated, there do seem to be many skillful, artistic women coming forward who are prepared to train to be tattoo artists.

The question is: What is the best age for a first tattoo?

I saw this quote a while ago from the Bible Belt, which seems to indicate that under 40 — especially under 30 — is a widely preferred age.

I can see how a tattoo of some deeply religious symbol or image might be an effective reminder of one's commitment to Christ, however, I can distinctly remember encountering older women in bars with religious tattoos as well which seemed to be particularly out of place; the tattoo that is. They didn't seem to be all that concerned or distracted by them either. They remind me of those tattoos of ex girlfriends, or wives that have to eventually require further tattoos to conceal.

One of the churches I go to has three quite elderly women, all widows, who recently went out and got themselves tattoos. They all got them on their ankles which reminds me of that sufi parable of the guy who goes in to get a tattoo of a tiger on his back, but every time the tattoo artist starts to work, the guy stops him and asks, what he's starting on. Each time the artists says, "the tail", "the head", "the teeth", etc. And each time, the guy responds by asking him to start somewhere else.

The location seems to be somewhat relavent as well. I don't think a "tramp stamp" would be the best place for an angel, or some passage from the bible, etc. Accross the neck and forehead also seem to be inappropriate. I'm not a big fan of tattoos on or across the breasts either. I find them particularly annoying when displayed by bridal gowns. The shoulder seems one of the more popular locations. However, evidently eye tattoos are quite popular with some women. For those who may not be familiar with these, they're tattoos that are substituted for eye liner. They are time saving measures to avoid having to put eye liner on each and every day.

After so many years with the profession dominated by men, it's good that clearly gifted artistic women are having the opportunity to excel in their talents.

Often young ppl feel it's something they really need to do; but then move on.

Interesting verses in Romans 2.28-29: "For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly*; neither is that circumcision, which is outward* in the flesh:
But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly*; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God."

By way of comparison and application re. faith based tattoos: it's not whether the person's skin/flesh has a faith based tattoo or not, that counts, but whether the truth contained in the faith based tattoo (Bible phrase, ref., etc.) is written / engraved on the heart.
