It would certainly be a talking point, and create opportunities I agree.

Seems anyway that a lot of Christian young ppl feel the motive and privilege of getting Bible verses inked. I think you said your daughter got inked; since it's what young ppl these days do anyway - so many of them - to Christian young ppl a Bible verse tattoo probably seems a natural thing to want to receive.

PS: I wish they wouldn't keep flashing from one scene to another on the show. IMHO better to record a work of skin art develop from start to finish.

I think the pain and misery they suffered was made worse by the feeling of total helplessness. When they cut themselves, they can feel that the pain and misery is under their control. Doesn't make a lot of sense to you or me but it apparently does to them. It is heart-breaking to counsel one of these women (and it is almost always women).

I know that some Christians who don't like tattoos, like to assume that young Christians getting Bible verses tattooed supposedly have some kind of psychological problem or abuse background, etc., but I really don't buy that, do you?

No she has quite a few, my oldest dauther is working on sleeves

@farouk As I waited for my husband to come back from doing an errand I sat on a bench in the sunshine. There was already a man sitting there and we got into conversation and I noticed he had a rather nice tattoo on his right forearm and I commented on how nice it was. It was the nicest one I have ever seen

So did the guy with the good tattoo show up again when you and your husband have been doing shopping lately?

I guess it proves that even among tattoo veterans and experts the adage is still true: Beauty (or ugliness...) is in the eye of the beholder...

There is also the law that Farouk mentioned about beard cutting. I believe it is about understanding the culture then...
To me it's cultural - obviously I do sit on the other side because I have a tattoo , but I did look through scripture and reflect on it before I got one

I don't think it is clear cut as that Farouk - there are many things within the culture around me that I would not consider ' right for me ' - getting drunk,smoking, taking cannabis, nose piercing, tongue piercing,Botox ect ect.
It was a personal choice, and not one I rushed into - I gave it some thought and weighed it all up, so why would I have any regrets - if I had any doubts at the time I simply would not have got it done.

Yes, I can see that as far as the many faceted aspects of 'culture' are concerned, the fact that tattoos are now part of the culture is one aspect you now clearly don't regret.

I was thinking also about what you said about when your sons first did their ink; I wondered whether at the time at first you more or less did start to regret that it was part of the culture when they first did it; but maybe then gradually (perhaps?) you became thoroughly accustomed to it and decided it was something about today's culture that you really felt struck a chord with you as well, so after a lot of reflection you did it - without any regrets, of course.

Your reflective comments do make a lot of sense.

Oh okay! so she's the one who really does want to do sleeves?

Years ago it used to be very much a man thing to do (sailors, bikers); but, now that it's also become a very womanly thing to do, maybe we sometimes don't realize just how very strongly so many young women are seemingly deeply gripped by the wish for ink.

@soul man PS: I think there is such a potential for faith based tattoo designs today. Maybe it would be a really good idea if more young Christians were prepared to pursue tattoo artist careers, do you think?
