JohnPaul: Yes, it's not unusual for the thought of another to follow a first tattoo.I was even going to get more...
So is the head of Christ on my chest a witness tool.JohnPaul: Yes, it's not unusual for the thought of another to follow a first tattoo.
(The young lady that my wife and I talked to with John 3.16 tattooed on her wrist area had - as far as I know - only one tattoo, but this was seemingly very much a deliberate witness tool that she had chosen to be needled with.)
I reckon that when it's been visible it's been the cause of starting various conversations, right? So is the head of Christ on my chest a witness tool.
No I’ve never had anyone start a conversation over it, it’s a pretty big one too.I reckon that when it's been visible it's been the cause of starting various conversations, right?
(The one - with John 3.16 in full - on the wrist of the young lady that my wife and I talked to certainly worked to bring about the conversation we had with her, just as it was designed to do, no doubt.)
Because a lot of Christians (especially young men and women) have become convinced that faith based designs are proven to work as conversation-starters, this is likely why they are so widely received.
Maybe the placement has something to do with it; if it's not seen so often. No I’ve never had anyone steady a conversation over it, it’s pretty big too.
But without any regard to which way men have voted or believed, is not the best answer God's?Poll results assessment so far:
22 have voted 'Never'.
19 have voted for the various other options.
The 'Never' is in front, but only by quite a small margin. Clearly the other options - whatever they may be - are almost as widely preferred as the 'Never'.
One could I suppose avoid having any polls on a site like this, on the supposition that there is never any nuance or context to any question, and that, despite Romans 14's treatise on Christian liberty there is only one cut and dried answer for everything. But without any regard to which way men have voted or believed, is not the best answer God's?
"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." John 14:26One could I suppose avoid having any polls on a site like this, on the supposition that there is never any nuance or context to any question, and that, despite Romans 14's treatise on Christian liberty there is only one cut and dried answer for everything.
Amen, indeed!"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." John 14:26
You simply repeated yourself here. In posts #861 & #869 I already disagreed with your understanding of those verses. They quoted below again for your convenience:Amen, indeed!
And Paul also says in Romans 14.5-6:
"One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks."
There are always some matters which will be viewed as nuanced and subject to context and equally sincere Christians may well come to different viewpoints about them.
Romans 14 is telling us how to treat others. How we treat our own stewardship is another thing. This is the talent that God gave to each until He returns for His own and expects an accounting from us:
"So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God." Rom 14:12
That is may seem good to them still leaves the question of me for me or of you for you. As I have said Romans 14 is not granting us liberty. It is explaining how we are treat other people. We are not their judges. Whether or not we are our own judges is another question altogether. What we do with what we have been given is the basis for our final judgment. Part of what we have been given is this body, but it is NOT ours.
I do not even know what the word, Fundamentalist, means to you or other called Christians, but I am not surprised by the set in concrete description of Romans 14. I do disagree with it, but I know that I am not always right, but like everyone else I most always believe what I believe.
"Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts." Prob 21:2
So are any of them faith based in design, maybe?I think it an issue for the potential pin cushion and God.
I have several tattoos, and while I do not regret getting them I do not know that I would get them were I able to go back in time.
I had the sense to get them where they are not visible in a short sleeved shirt.
@Lady Crosstalk Interesting comment from back a bit. My wife and I anyway talked to a young lady who had gotten her favorite Scripture - John 3.16 - tattooed in full on her wrist area. It evidently worked with us in that it gave rise to a conversation with us: as it doubtless has done with many other conversations, which presumably was her intention all along, when she willingly put her wrist area skin under the inking needles; one senses that - leaving aside aesthetics one way or another - it would have given her a lot of joy to do it! :)Not a spiritual objection--merely an aesthetic one. LOL
