When we got married in 1972 our first car was a white 1960 Chevrolet Impala. It had belonged to my boss's mother and was in beautiful condition.Some of those big 60s and 70s cars were almost evocative of aircraft carriers....
They called our Chevy totaled but it was built like a tank.
Yes, they had heavy steel bumpers. If we hit something like that with the Accord we drive today the Accord would be totaled but the Chevy would drive on...Back then, it was a real accomplishment to total a Chevy. Everything was much stronger than it needed to be.
