How wonderful, I didn't know you had been there........My highlighted bit, I must say that really surprises me...I was brought up there, and everyone we knew, and all the family were fine with Germans, we had a roaring back and forth tourist trade as well between our two countries.........I guess some older folk may have still had a bit of a grudge, but I don't recall ever speaking to any...My grand dad had been in the war and had been wounded, but I remember him saying, that you cannot blame the soldier, as they are ordered to do what they do, just as he was.....Didn't realize it then, but he was quite a wise man.remembering too well the WWII occupation of their country still were not very nice to Germans
I was not there long as we were both students and needed to return soon to West Berlin. The difficulty about my German friend consisted in only one conversation with some local men outside what I believe was drinking establishment of some kind. We had intended to go in, but the conversation decided us against it. I presumed, perhaps wrongly, that that was a common feeling against Germans. But likely now put into a better perspective it was an isolated incident that no did not reflect the way most people felt. Younger people who did not have personal wartime experiences were less likely to have a strong anti-German bias. In my own case my own father, my step-father and a couple of uncles served in the military during WWII but none of them talked about it. This was probably how it was with most soldiers on all sides. How wonderful, I didn't know you had been there........My highlighted bit, I must say that really surprises me...I was brought up there, and everyone we knew, and all the family were fine with Germans, we had a roaring back and forth tourist trade as well between our two countries.........I guess some older folk may have still had a bit of a grudge, but I don't recall ever speaking to any...My grand dad had been in the war and had been wounded, but I remember him saying, that you cannot blame the soldier, as they are ordered to do what they do, just as he was.....Didn't realize it then, but he was quite a wise man.
Good on you for helping the girl, but as you said, if you had been alone ? I used to give people lifts, but not for some years now....These days I would only do so if asked by the Lord :)
I see what resembles some forest behind your place on these backroads. Can you hunt there.....@APAK We are just a backstreet...it's only the main roads that get the sand these days.

We have rabbits , Deer and coyotes there...but that is too close to the City...so they can hunt...but a bit further out.
We are an hour from Canmore and Banff. Banff being the start of the National Park. No hunting there through...lots of animals.
Which does make me think of bears..hummm now would they still be asleep?
There is NOTHING for them to eat if they wake up...there is nothing at all for the poor Rabbits and Deer...let alone any berries or buds or shoots for the Bears.
I had not thought of that until just now.
Has the bears been close to the homes before, with a winter season like the one you are describing here?
