I've always been interested in so many things I never had a hobby, one thing did excluding others. But working with wood in all kinds of ways has always been a love. My father was a master furniture maker and taught it at the Arkansas School for the Deaf.

These are a few of the art pieces I made. Many are gone since I gave them to friends. The pictures are first sketched in wood then Woodburned. Then they are painted with acrylics.

Above the sink in the kitchen I made this piece. The flower petals are walnut as are the stems and leaves. The flower centers are red cedar.

How lovely @Frank Lee ...

I have no such skills. I used to paint. Landscapes mostly. I love sea scenes but my water never looks like it has movement...so I stopped trying.

I also have done many an animal painted on rocks.
Like you mentioned mostly given away to fiends and family. My daughter has three cats and a dog of mine.

But, I must admit...to me the most fun of doing all that was finding cat shaped and dog shaped rocks..the right size and shape of the animals, so they looked real and alive.
My husband did NOT find that very fun...so in the end my friend and I drove miles to fields and rivers in the 'rock search'..she enjoyed it. :)

Mine for most of my life was collecting postage stamps. It did along the way get me in trouble with God but that is a testimony in itself which I won't detail here. Now for several years I work with my stamps only once in a while preparing books to sell them. I have sold many thousands and I do not collect any new ones, but I still have many thousands. I still have some around 100,000 world-wide stamps some collected before I was 10 years old. I do enjoy working on them but I have to keep my priorities straight which is why now I only sell them. I do not have the stamp pictured in the attachment.

Attached is one page from one of the many books I have out on the circuit for sale. The club that circulates them for me takes 20% off the top plus it is rare that more than 20% of stamps offered are sold at all. They usually stay on the circuit for sale about 2 years. The problem is the number of collectors is greatly diminished from what it once was and those who remain won't usually buy stamps they already have. There are comparatively few new collectors who want to buy everything... even if they could afford to do so.

The Azores stamps on the attachment are from 1920's and 1930's.

Yes, I still have some Penny Blacks of different varieties, but they are mostly relatively inexpensive or badly damaged but they are all quite old. As you may know the first official postage stamps issued by any nation in the world came out 1840 issued by Great Britain and the first stamp was a Penny Black. My more expensive ones for the most part were with the 1000 Great Britain stamps sent out for sale in 2013, but I still have thousands of British stamps including a few the lower valued Penny Blacks.

I did not begin to scan all stamps sent out for sale until 2015. Before that I have records, but not scans of the stamps. There are dozens of varieties of Penny Blacks ranging in value from $3 to well over $10,000 with the stamp's condition being a major factor in determining its value. I've never had any of the really valuable ones. If I could find a buyer, which these days is difficult, I would do well to sell a stamp for 40% of its catalogue value.

The stamps on this page from France were issued from the late 1870's to the early 1880's. The catalogue value (2016 Catalogue) is shown on the left and the asking price shown as "net" is to the right.

Oh how exciting...sound fun. :)
You do have some good ones.
Hope you make some good sales ...I am guessing your son is not into stamps?

I started my wife, my son and my daughter into stamp collecting many years ago. All of them gave it up and all that I gave them reverted back to me. Over the years I was always trying to help anyone interested by giving them albums and stamps and catalogues, but I have never found one who would hold their interest long enough. If I found a serious person [locally], especially a younger person, I would give them a collection with all the needed accessories, as well as some of my time to get them going. Alas in the end even though I am continuing to sell I have too many stamps. I will die one day and if my wife lives she will sell the whole thing to some stamp dealer for ridiculously low priced bargain. If my children get them they will probably end up in some dumpster. Stamps need the environment that people need. If one hides them away in an unprotected environment in a period of time thousands of dollars will be worth scrap paper...

I have averaged no more than a few hundred dollars a year from my sells. It would not be worth my time if I was only doing it for profit. It provides us a nice extra meal at a restaurant once in a while or a small shopping splurge.

I have saved some of the pretty stamps my parents got from the post office, they have come out with some real beauties. There were flower stamps, some pretty spring flowers, some with roses for valentine's day, some with orchids, some with lilies. There were Christmas stamps of the Virgin Mary and baby Jesus, a Madonna and Child from the Renaissance era, some pretty birds and butterflies.

I like your wood pictures Frank Lee. Wood art has an old fashion beauty, I like it, makes me think of the 19th century when people made things by hand.

I am an amateur artist, I like to draw and paint, I collect dolls, but I only make paper dolls, don't know how to make a cloth doll or porcelain doll. It would be fun to make a cloth doll, i wish I knew more about sewing. I'd like to learn to embroider and do some needlepoint and quilting, use a sewing machine and sew some doll's clothes, that would be fun.

I have been drawing and painting since a young age and I really like it. I use graphite, colored pencils, water colors, and acryllics. I have thought about illustrating the Bible, or just part of it. I have drawn pictures of Jesus Christ and angels.

The most recent one I made for an elderly widow friend of our son's, Rose Marie who is up in her 80's. It is a cross that is a wall hanger. She lives alone and is sort of like a grand mother figure to him. Some of the pieces are as much as ten years old. I have not shown all..

I never do any representation of Jesus for no man has seen God at any time. I can't abide those so called pictures of Jesus showing Him with Long hair.

1 Corinthians 11:14 KJVS
Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?

This is about 12" long.

I made this as a give away for an NRA dinner a few years back.

Pretty much what the upper reaches of the River I live on look like in the Ouachita national forest.

Also Cycling and photography, best of both worlds since I dont own a car. i usually have to ride everywhere, great for fitness. not much good when it rains. Also have lots of lego technical sets, but they will go when teh right kid shows up.

The Elcheapo ride. $280 AU- Nice frame the rest is plggg. Had to replace rear wheel chain and rear gears. My $180 one I bought before lasted me 15 years.

Nice, I enjoy riding too, haven't done it in a while though, living on a range here, so it's up and down all the time, the downhills makes riding uphill worth it. But I'm not brave enough to crank it down hill on a bumpy firetrack and other tracks at full speed though like what they do in the downhill races, but still get speed up to 35kmh - 40kmh on the downhills, when it gets pretty steep though with those deep ruts, I'm on a crawl downhill haha, definitely feel safer going faster on the paved roads though, but that's not as fun, too noiser, too many cars, so I prefer the tracks, and those bumps are some fun haha, riding on dirt rather than asphalt too feels a lot funner too.

Ye fun to watch, but for me the extreme stuff is just not worth it, especially with the nasty injuries that can come with it. I ride a Fuji Nevada 1.6.

I've been thinking about doing some biking! And you may have inspired me! We have miles of trails here in the Ouachitas and rural roads. Thank you for your post.

My dad built RC model planes, big ones with 6 ft wingspans. He developed many innovations before they were available. He also built some pretty big RC watercraft. Lots of fun to watch and run.
