What is with the "we who are still alive and left?" a carefully crafted phrase that was written specifically to be misunderstood, if you want to, even downplays "being alive" which is likely the point

So in the last example we were being taken to a nest, room, or mansion, and here we are told that we will meet the Lord in the air, "and so we will be with the Lord forever." no transition phrase or anything, see, the "transition" is again added in by scribes, and read in by people with a desire, but all this v is doing is restating the previous one in different terms such that a logical reading will contradict other vv, as this one does, and force the logical/Romans to "fill in the gaps" from their imagination, and from posterity, as they already had a rich belief system filled with Pagan Paradises in an Afterlife that one had to die to attain, Mt Olympus, Asgaard, a hundred different names, a thousand, Nirvana, yadayada

i mean, the whole passage is a set-up lol, read the opening;
13We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, concerning those who are •asleep, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who have no hope.

Those who don't repent, they don't have the sanctification of the Holy Spirit working in their lives (nonbelievers who haven't come to faith in Jesus Christ). Believers however are sealed until death. Only believers obtain (agape love) after coming to faith, Rom 8:33, 38-39.

I wasn't talking about those who don't repent. As a Catholic, I understand that repentance is crucial for salvation. I'm talking about the fact that Scripture is adamantly clear that born again Christians can fall away and be lost. As I have presented on numerous posts on this thread - "Epignosis" means having a "full, experiential knowledge" of Christ.

The normal Greek word for knowledge is "Oida" - but that is NOT the word used in these verses.

Acts 20:32 "Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

2 Co 1:22 set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

2 Co 5:5 Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

Eph 1:13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

We absolutely DO have guarantees - but they are conditional.

When you buy a car, you have guarantees that it won't break down for a certain period of time - provided that you do the normal auto maintenance (oil changes, etc.). The same is true for a born again Christian. We have a guarantee of salvation - provided we are obedient in doing the will of the Father and endure to the end.

We don't get a guarantee that we can live whatever kind of lifestyle we want to.
We ALSO don't have a guarantee that we will never stumble or fall away.

Christians DO grieve when a loved one dies - so did Jesus. The difference is that Christians have a HOPE for their deceased loved one that they are with the Lord in Heaven - just as Scripture tells us. What do YOU think happens to a faithful servant who dies?

As for 1 Thess. 4:17 - this is no "set up" - it's reality. It's not based in any "pagan" belief - but in the Word of God.
It's about the return of Jesus - as Scripture predicted - as HE Himself predicted.

Jesus LEFT and returned to the Father - and will com BACK for us.
The Holy Spirit stays with us as does Christ's presence in the Eucharist.
