I saw this supposed documentary about Benjamin Franklin's discovery of electricity. In the "urban legend" there is always a kite flown in turbulent storm winds and a key either at the top of the kite or bottom apparently and during that massive powered lightning storm, he is shown "discovering electricity".
Oddly enough, anyone that understand the immense energy and amperage flow of the ultra high voltage together with the potential catastrophic electric accelerations in sequence like a chain coming down or going up in a lightning strike are fairly hazardous to the human body.
Here is the punch line from a "Youtube" video claiming to understand Benjamin Franklin and interestingly enough showing the fictional scene. It is an interesting article on the science area and also covered for safety so that no one attempt to be out in lightning inappropriately. Did or did not the following video direct people appropriately, watch to find out:
There is also the very comical and also troubling crows that seem to catch fire at different times playing the hirewire tight rope act which makes me wonder if they induce transformer explosions at times? Hmmm:
Here is the interesting assumption and responsible direction from wikipedia's article on Benjamin Franklin:

From the article:
He did not perform this experiment in the way that is often pictured in popular literature, flying the kite and waiting to be struck by lightning, as it would have been dangerous. Instead he used the kite to collect some electric charge from a storm cloud, showing that lightning was electrical.
