I planted things last year that my chickens absolutely loved ....sweet potato vines, zucchini ...they love the leaves and the veggies ...and the bugs that plague them at the end of the season. lol I could pull whole leaves off that were infected and the chickens ate them.Dual-purpose breeds may be worth looking into. They won't lay as many eggs, but you may still get 250-ish eggs a year out of a hen that will be a nice size at 2 or 3 years old. Try moving toward 100% free range ... plant some pasture for forage ....rows of sunflowers for seeds, peas, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, squash .... there's a cost, but much cheaper than chicken feed.
In the video, one theft mentioned was 100,000 eggs... apparently stolen from a big rig.Pray for them it is not fair that people buy it at tha price. May God save those persons stealing to feed to family. They are good people who want to feed their family. People don't deserve it.
What in the world are they going to do with 100,000 eggs?? Freeze dry them in a hurry?? lolIn the video, one theft mentioned was 100,000 eggs... apparently stolen from a big rig.
The other theft I think they stole three crates of eggs.
So apparently not individuals stealing.
No. They will resell them. What in the world are they going to do with 100,000 eggs?? Freeze dry them in a hurry?? lol
Sounds fishy to me...
That did cross my mind ....but how did they accomplish stealing eggs from a truck without being caught? Maybe I should watch the report.No. They will resell them.
Find someone with a stocked pond....? lol
When I was a kid, we fished without a license. Things are so crazy!
That sounds like a good idea.We have a neighbor with a huge pond across the street, I dont know if it is stocked or not, but I was going to ask (given the times we are living in) if I could stock her pond for her on our dime if thy would allow us the rights to fish for food (if ever it became necessary). I know she would allow that, I should look into that again. I am not at all fond of fresh water fish (I love anything in the sea though) so I made excuses against it because it really isnt desirable, but it most certainly would be if such a time come upon us. My husband hates fish (period) so... more for me!![]()

Never had catfish, I have caught them but I would never eat them, they look like giant snails or something. And I guess that shouldnt irk me because I did try escargo in Germany many years ago and I thought it was alright. That sounds like a good idea.
In the deli section of our market they used to have catfish pieces...think they breaded them. I'm not a big fish eater but those catfish were good.
As a child my dad would take us fishing down one of the big rivers in Pittsburgh. We just caught them and threw them back in the river.
However, a couple of times, a lady was fishing for her dinner so Dad gave her his catch.

We fished fresh water in PA and salt water off NJ when we lived up north from where we live now. I do love to fish, you never see me again if I could live off a dock, there is nothing more satisfying (in this world) to me then fishing (but only in the sea). I cannot get that same feeling around fresh water (for whatever reason).
Me and you were chatting on another forum about the Amish in PA on one of your threads, since I had lived very close to Lancaster in PA.
Not sure if you recall, I am the one that uploaded a picture of our own home's "interior waterfall"
(which was really just water pouring into my home from our roof). I gave you a chuckle since you
were posting on homes wth waterfalls, and I thought, Gees, "My home would be so on topic here"![]()
That was at Worthy yes. I was a AFlameOfFire there. I had deleted that account because at the time I thought they were going to soon start with forcing Microsoft accounts and so I thought I would just quit all things online, but that apparently got moved back (to the end of this year, in October) so I jumped back online (here) and spend the time here until October comes again (then I am gone again) haha.I do remember about the waterfall in your home! Was the forum Worthy? What was your username?
There's another member at Worthy that lives near Lancaster City, (Starise). He has Amish neighbors. He does alot of videos of the countryside there and posts them.
My cousin moved to Amish country in Ohio. He sent me a few photos of Amish buggies going by his home.
Well, not too bad if you're a good fisherman/woman. I know they set limits on how many you can take home in a lot of cases. But you could still come out well ahead.Annual Fishing License: $61.82 for residents and $166.89 for non-residents.
I just did what I know I should not do as far as info goes running it through AI (I got lazy, because I dont like to click on links and this is basically a secular topic I care very little about) but all the costs varry each time you run it, it started off crazy high but its never the same price, how weird is that?Well, not too bad if you're a good fisherman/woman. $166.89.23 for eggs What ! :O Their selling eggs why are they selling eggs at those prices ! They gone mad !
When I was in my teens, in a friend's pond, we would stand about waist deep with bread in our hands and wait for the fish to come for a nibble ....and catch them with our hands. Just a thought... bread will get pretty expensive, too. lolThat was for fishing licenses in case eggs get too high.
I doubt they will get higher than those fishing licenses.
We're gonna need some Matthew 17:27 miracles soon, so I am glad that example in scripture. Although, I'm not sure if that is a legal move now because you would need to cast in your line (to catch a fish first) in order to pay for a fishing license (which should be illegal that we even need one).
I bet Jesus and the disciples had no fishing licenses

I think the Amish and their lifestyle is beautiful, not only that, the things they did during that flood disaster in the Carolinas was really amazing, just really good people. Wherever the live the place they abide remains beautiful too. I miss those trips to Lancaster, it was always a nice day heading there too.
On my next trip to Savanah from Birmingham. Auburn University has agreed to meet with me and give me a full afternoon with the livestock Professors to address the best advice over local Alabama and Georgia populations.Skip the frilly designer chicken breeds and get breeds that are known for egg production like Black Australorp, Rhode Island Red, White Leghorn, etc. They will lay 350+ eggs a year. My Black Australorps will lay in winter almost as much as other months. Start watching and breed the ones that are the best egg layers (size and quantity). Black Australorp are great foragers and free range very well. Put some solar "fairy lights" inside the coop so they have more light and will lay more eggs. Many chicken farmers will rotate their layers out at 2.5 to 3 years old and replace them with another generation.
