Hello, I am not really sure where to post this, if there is a better place please let me know. Me and my family have bought a property and are starting a christian community center. The property is in need of some repairs and things to get it off the ground. I am seeking advice on where to find volunteers. My dad was a big part of starting this, sadly very unexpectedly he has became sick and is now in the hopsital recovering from a very recent open heart surgery. Please be praying for him as he isnt doing well.
With the ministry just starting and my dad being very sick we really in need right now.
Currently we are needing some one who has a understanding of basic construction, flooring etc, and who also would be willing to help cut the grass and put up fencing. To begin we are hoping to restore one of the studio apartments on the property for future volunteers to live in. After that we will need volunteer cooks, as we plan on opening a kitchen and getting food to those in need. We will also need gardners, animal caretakers and many other things.
Currently we have a room the volunteer could live in. We are not with any church, we felt lead to start this on our own as a family, so its difficult to find people wanting to volunteer. I really was hoping for prayer for both wisdom and dicernment on how to find people who want to be apart of starting this ministry. Even short term help would be a huge blessing. We have a huge opportunity to reach many people where we are as there is nothing like in this area.

I would love to pray to God for your father and family. What a nice pleasant thing you are trying to do. I hope God will help you as you help others. Be careful taking care of the less fortunate, some of them are criminals and career criminals that are homeless and in and out of jail and can be dangerous. They will take any money from good Christians and pay for drugs which money can be used by criminals to kill police and other law enforcement agencies.

There are good homeless people and others like families that are in need of help, which would be more rewarding to help. A good idea is to direct some of those people for government help if they aren't receiving it. The state governments can offer a lot of help they will need if they are in need and not knowing about that type of help. Asking for help is difficult for those that have never had to humble themselves and reach out to survive. And then as a Christian group you could assist with what they are still in need of.

You could place a large sign and hold services if necessary to start a Christian organization. Advertising could bring people in, many needy and you could direct the advertising towards getting assistance from those already established as Christians that desire to help. The problem you will encounter is that most Christians just look for a church and are too busy to help much with work and family. You will need to hold your own services to establish yourself and provide some form of advertising.

My heart is happy you have these desires to be a good Christian.

Thanks for reaching out for prayer.

Thank you posting this here. I wish I could help you in the natural, but failing on that part at least I will be in prayer for your endeavor. Also praying for your father.

Thank you for the replies. Yes we have a name. We prayed for some time about what to call it and finally my mom just heard the words Terra Firma. At the time she didnt even know what it meant, but it means Firm or solid ground. So that is what its called, thank you for asking!:)

Thank you.... I cannot express how heavy this is on my heart my dad put all that he had into getting this place he has been working the grounds relentlessly, and I am deepy saddned that when things are finaly starting to take shape we are unsure if he will even be able to see it unfold. He lived through the surgery but a couple weeks out he called the doctor about a cough and some other things and they told him it was no problem and not to come in Then within days he couldnt breath he was rushed to the hopsital, he had a large infection and some how got E coli from when he was at the hopsital, the doctors said he could have died. Now the infection is going away but he has no desire to eat and his wieght is almost the same as me now. The doctors said that if his wieght doesnt get back up he wont surivive or be able to do the final surgery that is required. Ive been fasting and praying and pleading with the Heavenly Father to let my dad see the fruit of his labors with this place. Really praying for a miracle and that my dad will be able to eat again.

Thank you everyone for the responce, and yes thank you Devin. I really do appreciate all your prayers for this place and for my Dad, its very important to me he come home and see this place start. Yes Devin its been hard.... we have already had so much stolen from us thats part of why we are reaching out for help its been a very difficult season of trying to do somthing we feel called to do but also being attacked from every angle. Thats part of why my dads health is struggling the stress of it all really got to him. However, finally we got the Name of what God wants this place to be called and I can feel Him moving and I know the time is now, that this ministry is going to start, but we are just a couple of people right now and one man down at that, with my dad in the hospital, and there is tall grass everywhere and vines growing through the furniture broken toilets, holes in the roofs, a pool thats cracking, a water line thats busted somehwere.... Lol the list goes on, even in all this though I know God can do somthing. Its His Land, He picked the Name, and He put us here. Though on the outside it looks impossible, nothing is impossible with Him.

I am seeking advice on where to find volunteers.
Where is this property?

Currently we are needing some one who has a understanding of basic construction, flooring etc, and who also would be willing to help cut the grass and put up fencing. To begin we are hoping to restore one of the studio apartments on the property for future volunteers to live in. After that we will need volunteer cooks, as we plan on opening a kitchen and getting food to those in need. We will also need gardners, animal caretakers and many other things.

Phew! That's a lot. If I may be so bold. As a business man, you are trying to get this business off the ground and need a business plan. From what you wrote some of it is not suited for volunteer work as there are required specifications that must be met:
  1. construction, --> Hire a Pro
  2. flooring etc, --> Hire a Pro
  3. cut the grass --> Volunteer
  4. put up fencing. --> Hire a Pro
  5. restore one of the studio apartments - --> Hire a Pro
  6. volunteer cooks --> Split. Volunteer cooks. Hire a Pro restaurant manager.
  7. need gardners --> Volunteer
  8. animal caretakers --> Depending on the animals, may need to split with a pro.
  9. many other things. --> Hire a Pro to define and manage this and all the above.
I may have missed how much start up capital you have. Besides labor, construction materials and remodeling supplies will not be cheap. My church is looking to do a major renovation. The cost is $2.8M - $4.3M.

Hope this helps.

If God wants you to do it then it is definitely not impossible. An approach to fixing something like what you are describing is definitely getting help while doing small tasks one at a time as you are able to do. It may feel overwhelming to see something like that. Take small tasks and do a little every time and they will add up over time. You could think about what it will become, if you aren't already, and have dreams about what you will achieve in the long run. Positive encouragement is good to think on.

I prayed to God about your situation regarding starting what you wanted and I got a positive response as well.

I will pray for your father and family, please let us know how things are going, and we can continue to pray for you.

It breaks my heart to read about your family’s struggles. You can hear the love you have for your father in your plea, wanting him to experience what he has started. It sounds like he has trusted it in good hands which are yours. I do hope and pray for those seed planted to grow. I love the name!
Praying for your family.

Hello thank you for the responce, I appreciate your perspective and your understanding in buisness. Its true that we must really put a lot of prayer into how to manage all of this and having a buisness mind is helpful. My parents invested most of there life into buying this place so we dont have a lot of capitial, but we have a lot of heart, and I am believing God through whatever means He chooses He will provide what we need to do whatever it is He wants us to do.
We have in the past hired people here to do a lot of work, construction and fixing the roofs etc, the issue here is its very difficult to actually find pros at anything. There isnt large companies here that hold there employees accountable its all word of mouth and a bit like the wild west. If some one does a poor job there isnt much you can do. For example we put a lot of money into fixing the roof and after a couple months its leaking everywhere. We called the person who did it, but they dont return our calls and thats that.
When we first bought the place we thought it was like the USA, buts not.... Sadly workers stole a lot of stuff from us, stuff that really was exspensive that we still havent been able to buy and replace, and there was nothing we could do about it. Its just the way it is here. There is little accountability.
My dad was the one who would find people and hire them. Its remarkable how bad its been with hiring people here. We have lost so much.. Also there are some very sketchy laws here that give the employees a lot more rights then the employer. If you dont get a lawyer, and do the proper paperwork in the begining with anyone you hire they can easily demand a lot of money from you, If you decide not to use there services anymore. Which we have learned the hard way about several times now. Always thinking this or that worker wouldnt do this to us etc. We have had to literarly keep workers that are stealing from us and doing a very poor job just because they threatened us and we couldnt pay the money to let them go at the time.
So finally we have no workers and are free of all that, and through much prayer and fasting and seeking God about this. I have reached the conclusion that there is a lot of spiritual warefare involved in what we are trying to do, and that anyone we bring to this property to work, or to serve, or to do anything with this ministry they must be the hands and feet of Christ, they must believe in Him. Otherwise we are going to have all the same issues again. Its to bad there isnt a place for beleivers to hire or find other volunteer believers.

I pray for God to help you in every he can in your endeavor. Apostle Paul had to deal with stuff that would hinder him. Jesus will cast down the works of every devil whom he wills that is going to help you succeed in what you and your family are trying to do.
