Jerusalem currently has a population of around 1 million, and Rome around two and half million. Why do you assume Jerusalem is the only genuinely great city of earth, or that the Book of Revelations suggests it is? Your references are six Chapters apart and belong to two different narratives.

I believe a key to understanding the words of prophecy is this: "to the Jew first, then the Gentile". They applied to Israel/Jerusalem first, then they will apply to the mostly Gentile church.

The mystery of iniquity working in/among God's people (first Jerusalem then the Gentile church) eventually gives birth to sin. Jesus knowingly sent us out "as sheep among wolves"....wolves in sheep's clothing. Mystery Babylon, Jezebel, antichrist.....these are all references to the same spirit of the world when it infects the people of God, first Israel/Jerusalem, then later the mostly Gentile church. These things happened unto Israel first as an example and admonition to the church. The church is following the same pattern as Israel in her apostasy. When the Spirit of the Lord is grieved enough to depart (Ichabod) His temple, another spirit, not of God, takes over and rules it. Israel taken "captive" by Babylon is a picture of the church (God's new covenant temple) "becoming" Babylon - Mystery Babylon - when that spirit takes it over, taking it captive. The beast (Rome) turned on the Harlot in 70AD and I believe that is a pattern and prophecy for how it will go with the apostate Gentile church in the end. Spiritual harlotry, in bed with the world.......trying to serve both God and Baal/mammon/spirit of the world at the same time.

Is it a coincidence that many Protestants are softening towards and even "uniting" with the RCC as we near the end.........and that the RCC has a very strong interest in Jerusalem and the Temple? (Temple Institute has openly stated that the purpose of a rebuilt Temple will be to unite all the religions of the world.) The RCC is also actively engaged in trying to bring the protestant church back into its fold. Spirit of ecumenicalism and interfaith......is the spirit of Babel (Babylon)...spirit of the world. AKA antichrist, Jezebel, mystery Babylon, mystery of iniquity....it has various guises and names. We must not be unequally yoked with that, but are called to come out of her/it and be ye SEPARATE. Friendship with the world is ENMITY with God.

It's not just the good news of the gospel that is to the Jew first, then the Gentile....but also this:

The Revelation 11:8 confirms that JERUSALEM is the "great city" of the Book of Revelation, that's especially why. And that should be your first step in understanding the Revelation 17:18 verse which declares that "MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT..." is about a specific "great city".

I can tell, you're most likely another one that has not done your homework in the Old Testament Book of God's prophets.

In Ezekiel 16 is where God first referred to the city of Jerusalem as a HARLOT when it and His people back in history fell into idol worship and forgot Him. You should study that whole Ezekiel 16 Chapter.


Consider also the following, and think...

Lamentations is a post-destruction of Jerusalem time by the historical king of Babylon. It is a type of mourning for Jerusalem...

The above Rev.18:7 verse is about that "great city" of Rev.17, "MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT...". In that, she claims she is NO WIDOW. Now think, how is that allegory meant about the "great city"?

Lamentations 1 says Jerusalem became... as a widow. That happened when the king of Babylon was sent by God upon Jerusalem because of false worship there. The city of Jerusalem and the 2nd temple was destroyed.

Revelation 18:7 points to what the "great city" says about herself, THAT SHE IS NO WIDOW, which means she is MARRIED. But the question for the end with that "great city", who will she be MARRIED TO with that I AM NO WIDOW claim? The answer is the future coming FALSE-MESSIAH to Jerusalem, which is coming first prior to our Lord Jesus' future coming.

Also, that "I sit a queen" metaphor in that Rev.18:7, which the Babylon Harlot says about herself, points to her also being married... to a king. But WHICH king though?

Did you maybe not realize that Satan himself is called the 'king' over the bottomless pit per Rev.9?

Did you not know that the coming false-Messiah to Jerusalem prophesied for the end of this world by Lord Jesus and Apostle Paul, is also coming to play the role of God, and thus Christ as King, in JERUSALEM? Understanding Bible Scripture about all that is PART of this Revelation understanding pointing to JERUSALEM as that "great city" Babylon Harlot for the end, which will say in the future when that false-Messiah shows up there, that she says she sits a queen, and is no widow.

The allegories and metaphors God uses in His Word are very... important. And He used those to make His Message of His Word easier for to understand. And we have to ask Him for understanding of His Word regarding those tools also.

Well, the "mystery of iniquity" idea is about a matter not many brethren are prepared to hear. It involves the children ("tares") which Jesus said in Matt.13 that the devil sowed. It's been at work throughout history.

The one who Paul says is withholding is about the Archangel Michael per the Daniel 10 Chapter, as he is withholding Satan until it is his time to be revealed. Most Churches are not even aware of this, much less teach about it.

And about the idea of "antichrist" that some Churches only teach as a 'spirit of antichrist' and not about a specific false one. In 1 John 2:18 he showed that a singular... "antichrist" is coming, and that the brethren there already heard about it. And then he mentioned the "many antichrists" already at work, which is what Paul also was pointing to with the "mystery of iniquity" in 2 Thess.2.

So I admonish you to study... God's Word more about the warnings of the coming false-Christ which God's Word shows will come at the very end of this world, to Jerusalem, and setup the "abomination of desolation" IDOL ("image of the beast") in a new 3rd Jewish stone temple there to be built when that false-Messiah shows up there. When that final Antichrist shows up in Jerusalem and sets up that AOD, Jesus told those of His servants there to flee Judea, and He said for us in the countries to NOT enter into Jerusalem at that time (Matthew 24: Mark 13: Luke 21).

And it appears you completely... leave out the New Testament warnings about the coming false-Christ to Jerusalem at the end which Paul showed in 2 Thess.2 will be the cause... of the great apostasy and strong delusion that he mentioned there.

Jerusalem currently has a population of around 1 million, and Rome around two and half million. Why do you assume Jerusalem is the only genuinely great city of earth, or that the Book of Revelations suggests it is? Your references are six Chapters apart and belong to two different narratives.
