I find this hard to believe but read it and see . I roamed far and wide at that age and earlier , one end to the other of a military base but my Mom did know about it . What was it like when you grew up ?

I guess it's a sign of the times. But I think they carried it too far about a fine and jail...she isn't a negligent mom. They could just explain to the child about the dangers these days, and to be more careful.

When I was growing up, I played in the neighborhood. Then at dinner time I would go home.

Yes , we use to go out all day and come home when it was dark!
However we are so much more aware of peopdaphiles and others that prey on children, back in the day you just didnt hear about it. If I found an 11year old wondering around town I would call the police in order to find their parents, but only to make sure they got home okay. I doubt any action would be taken. If however something did happen, then it would be taken more seriously.

On the weekends, we would leave the house early in the morning to play in the woods. Sometimes my siblings and I would go hiking over the mountains or go swimming in the rivers and creeks where we lived. We would make huts and create armies, have wars with the neighbouring kids. Make stilts, climb trees, play in the trains or jiggers, go hunting for frogs or tadpoles or collect blackberries. We would come home when we heard our mom call out and it was usually getting dark by then. :thumbsupx1

I used to ride my bike to a friends almost 2 miles away. We used to walk to the mall over a mile away. I loved to walk home from freshman school which was about 3 miles away maybe more. Sometimes I would skip the bus so i could walk to school

its a different world we live in. We do have to protect the kids. But this was overboard. To arrest a parent. Crazy!

I grew up the same way in Southern Calif, at 10-11yrs old on weekends me and my older 12-13yr old buddies would jump on our schwinn stingrays at Sun up and go exploring all day, fishing, frog gigging, crawdad catch, rabbit hunting with our 22. Rifle, get home at around 9-10pm cleaned the rabbits, crawdads, and fish, divided up the goods and my moms dinner was on the stove top cold waiting for a little heat

Times have changed, including "The Karen" in a small town in Fannin County Georgia, the county attorney has to drop charges, hard to believe!

The American tone is going to change quick, the liberal agenda is/will be destroyed, we have a new sheriff in town Donald J. Trump!

None of us walked far, we would ride bikes miles away exploring. This would have been from late 60's to early 70's in the suburbs of Buffalo. Lots of empty lots and fields and creeks, we wandered far and wide. My 2 brothers and I would walk our small fg rowboat of my grandparents to the harbor and row all over Buzzards Bay Cape Cod area in the late 60's by ourselves. I will say we always went with other kids, no alone. Being alone was no fun. We did things together and neighborhood kids went with us too.

In the story the woman asked the boy who his mom is , why didn't the woman call the boy's mom on speaker phone so they both could talk to the mom ? Much better option than the police , IMO .
We may not have got all the story here either , the woman that talked to the boy could have had it in for the Boy's mom and calling the police was retribution of some kind .

I hope the county DA drops charges and apologizes .

You know on reflection , 11 year olds are often in town. In my head I was thinking of a child much younger. So I guess something would have to trigger some concern in me to take action.

I always look at things like this and think it was fine for this back then and then I remember all of the times certain situations were not safe. Depending on where you live that could be a really bad idea.
