It’s been a week nearly since our last update, Sis...thinking of you both and in my prayers.
Thanks so much for remembering us.

The home care agency will soon start hospice care for mom according to the owner.

Did a lot of diaper changes today with the diarrhea in them. She's not eating now...she got a bit of throwing up on Monday evening and her blood pressure was low.

Talked to her doctor this morning and she said it's either the ER or hospice. Mom is 94 and always declined after the hospital stays. She is ready to go home to be with Jesus.

Thanks for your prayers. Amazingly tonight mom woke up and wanted to eat something. I gave her a small portion of yogurt and cottage cheese which don't take much chewing.

She had been sleeping for a long time and not eating...so it was something that she wanted food!

Hi Depp,
Do they offer hospice care at home so that your mum can remain where she is, over here it’s called palliative care. We had a hospice take over part of our care home for a few years, they were wonderful and supported both the patient and the family , same if you were receiving their support in the home. My dad spent his last week in A&E ( your ER ) side ward , thankfully he was sedated, but for us as a family it was noisy, impersonal and no one really offered any care when the end came - I was on my own with him.
Much love to you and your mum xxxxxx

Yes, the hospice care will be at our apartment. I'm not really sure about how it will all go. For as little as mom eats, it's amazing she still is cognizant.

The owner of the care agency is very nice and helpful. He said he will get a caregiver for three hours a day, I think for five days a week.

Mom is starting to dangle over the foot of the bed again since I raised her up to eat.... dangling nearly to the knees. When the LVN came each day to treat her pressure sore, she pulled mom up to the headboard. She's not coming anymore.

I hope the caregiver can help pull her up. Otherwise I might have to ask one of my nice neighbors. Edgar told me if I needed help to let him know.

About the only book my mom read is the Bible. She's not a novel/fiction person.
She cannot hear, hardly at all so I can't really read to her.

Although she isn't eating much at all, her mind is fine. That's what's amazing.

Yesterday and today she has had a lot of diarrhea...it takes me an hour each time to clean her up, I get exhausted.

She left most of her pot pie although she said she wanted it. I tried to get her to eat the crust so her bowel movements wouldn't be so mushy. She just wouldn't eat.

Just this minute she called me in. I had to remind her she had the pot pie which she left. However, she asked me if I ate....so her mind is still functioning.
Praise be to the LORD , sounds like mama do love her some of the holy bible . try reading a bit to her perhaps .
Let the LORD be praised and thanked . SOON this life will be over and all lambs will be HOME
forever with the GLORIOUS LORD . Thanks be TO GOD and TO HIS CHRIST we have a wonderful home that awaits us at the end
of our faith .

Mom fell and broke her hip after Midnight today.

Thanks for your prayers.
She'd be greatly helped if she ate Natto. It has a lot of Vitamin K2, which puts calcium in the bones. K2 supplements are unreliable. You'd have to find one that worked. That's why I prefer Natto.

I called the OT yesterday to ask if she's still coming today. When she heard mom was dangling off of the bed to her knees, she came by and pulled mom back to the headboard. Really kind of her. She's a Christian Korean. The home care agency is all Korean, most Koreans are Christians.

I had put the portable commode covered with blankets to hold her lower legs up!

No hospice care started yet. Mom had a tiny bit of cottage cheese and yogurt. It's easy for her to swallow.

Mom slept a lot yesterday and now in the wee hours she's calling often for water. She didn't eat anything yesterday.... usually she just takes a very small portion of cottage cheese and yogurt.

No hospice started yet.

Prayer for your mom..
Thanks.

It amazes me that considering how little food or no food she eats that her mind is still functioning. She calls out for water throughout the day and night.... taking little sips at a time.

Yesterday she wanted a waffle. But she took one bite and spit it out. Refused to eat it.

Hi Debp. Can she perhaps eat applesauce?

Hi Debp. Can she perhaps eat applesauce?

She just doesn't want to eat anymore. The home care agency owner thinks she will soon be put on hospice care at our apartment. Mom is 94.

P.S. Before she asked for the waffle which she didn't eat...I offered her a bit of cottage cheese and yogurt which she pushed away.

I was just trying to be helpful as you know. If I was dehydrated and there was no fruit in the house and my throat dry, applesauce would be my go to. I have been reading this, and that is what came to mind.

Hello Debp,

Your mother is showing all of the same classic signs as my MIL showed just before she died. My wife and I had to encourage the other family members to not hold onto her and to bless her by released her to die peacefully.

My wife wanted to care for her mother at home but after one night the level of care for her mother was beyond her ability to provide, so we had to put my MIL into hospital to have the best care for the last three or four days while her body was finally shutting down to die. Initially she was angry at her daughter for putting her in hospital, but someone else intervened when they spoke with her, and this helped her to die peacefully.

I know that this may not be the advice that you are wanting to hear, but sometimes we have to let go and let God take care of His own.

Shalom

PS: - Debp, I have been wanting to post this for a while now. When my father fell and broke his hip at 92, my eldest sister wanted the miracle of modern medicine to intervene so that his hip would heal so that he could keep living. His father died when he had fallen and broken his upper leg bone near the top ball. Both my grandfather and father had heart issues as well. My father was very agitated initially when he was put in hospital, but he quietened down and died peacefully. Hopefully, when it is my time to die, I will not do so disgracefully.

Yes, I've accepted for a couple of weeks that my mom is going to pass on since she isn't eating. She does call out for water often and takes little sips as I hold the glass.

So far she peacefully sleeps a lot so I guess the home care agency is holding off a bit on the hospice care at our apartment.

I don't know how long this will last since she isn't eating....I know one can live longer without food, but one requires water.
