Our French beginnings are a mystery. The family story was Heugenot escaping France for Britain. But that's all we have. I have traces of Welsh, Irish, Scot, and English, of varying degrees. But where the French came in we don't know. My older sister had traced all branches as far as she can without expending vast sounds of money... Clearly when whoever arrived in Britain, a change of name was first priority. The changing political climate through those times in England particularly wouldn't have been congenial for a Francios or Adeline du Preez wandering around the British countryside. (My mother's name was Adeline). ( My father's name Frank.

The strangest translation for a French to English name I have ever heard is.... Bill=William=Guillaume ?? I think that is how you spell William in French.... One of my uncles was named Noel because well... He was born on Christmas Day.... Oh and Laurient is Larry.... That's another strange translation. I was named after my grandmother on my mother's side... but I am not brave enough to declare that in open forums... LOL.... That would give my enemies leverage over me... HAHAHAHAHAHA
