Their would be NO NEED for the ---------Holy Spirit ------------if people could come to faith in Jesus by their own merits.

God the Holy Spirit his work makes the unwilling willing to beleive in Jesus ..

And its a person own fault if they do not..

TO GOD BE THE GLORY ALONE FOR THOSE WHO HAVE FAITH IN JESUS

AND ITS PEOPLES OWN FAULT IF they DIS BELEIVE IN JESUS BECAUSE God wants all of us to have THIS SAVING FAITH.

Hebrews 12:2
New King James Version (NKJV)

2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Follow the bouncing balls ... steps 1, 2, 3 ...

1. election ... God chooses some people from all tribes, all ethnic groups, all nations, etc.

2. free-will ... man chooses whether or not to accept God's revelation of spiritual truth,
i.e. His free gift of grace-faith.

3. more free-will ... man chooses whether or not to co-operate with the Holy Spirit
in his necessary sanctification process.

Note that not all of the originally chosen end up being among God's "elect" group
of Romans 8:28-30.

Where do you shoe horn 2 Peter 3:9 into your election? Or is that page torn from your bible? Maybe you haven't torn out 1 Tim 2:4-6
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,

the freewill argument for supporting the idea that we can choose Good over Evil is the same lie the serpent tempted us with in the Garden, which is based on a misuse of freewill.

Freewill was given to us by God so that could choose between good choices - Adam chose names for the animals, freely. Unfortunately, we decided to manufacture sin by misusing freewill, thus breaking it by using it to redefine Good from a self serving point of view. No longer was Good absolute in our minds and hearts, but relative to our self interest.

Be-this-as-it-may, not even Calvin taught that we are totally rotton and incapable of responding to God. Total Depravity does not mean rotten to the core, it means that all aspects of our nature are affected by the Fall.

Our ability to respond to God's Grace, by itself, demonstrates that we were created Good.

Total Depravity to the Calvinist means "Total Inability" to choose good, to choose Jesus Christ. Though it was Jesus' work on the Cross that redeemed us, they say that when we choose to repent and believe the Gospel, that it would be considered works and we are not saved by works. Actually, we are choosing to believe on Christ's work on the cross not our work of "choice" for life over death, so their argument is fallacious.

Amen. 2Cor.5:19,20 is about God doing a work of reconciliation and then pleading through us to the world, to respond and be reconciled. Maybe the hyper Calvanist doesn't have that verse in his bible. He pleads? (NKJ) Apparently.

A huge error that I see in the church is to confuse control with authority. God is in charge. This does not mean He is in control. We are not puppets or robots. They are controlled. We are not. God can plead with a sinner. They can respond...or not.

Amen, Willie. We are to choose daily to be a living sacrifice (our reasonable service, Romans 12:1) and to bring our wills into harmony with God's will (what the Spirit of God is telling us and how He is leading us).

We come into harmony with His will as He reveals it to us. That is two, working together in unity.
