1 Corinthians 2:15
But he who is spiritual judges all things...

Then Paul says

1 Corinthians 4:5
Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes...

What is Paul talking about and why does this sound like a contradiction?

The context determines the meaning.

1 Cor 2:15 is speaking about discerning or assessing spiritual things, and Christians should be able to do that with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, comparing Scripture with Scripture.

1 Cor 4:5 is about making judgments regarding other Christians. Especially when all the facts are not known, and neither are the motives.

A spiritual person judges nothing of himself. Such a person uses a discernment from the Spirit...having no confidence in his opinions or POV's. What Paul cautions against, then, is a private or personal judgment.
