I dont think of God as a bully, but i see Jesus primarily as judge and the one who will decide that i deserve hell. I dont think He’s unfair, i accept i belong in hell.
I do believe that if God wants to save me, He will. Im a calvinist. I know God could just think my addiction away, but thats not how He works. I just accept that whatever happens, it’ll be for His glory. If i do end up in hell, i know all of creation will be happy and declare God as just for sending me there.

im no christian, not yet anyways. Im trying to get there, but i have to beat my addiction first. Then i will be eligible to get saved.
There's no-one more eligible to being saved than he who admits he needs salvation. But what you are trying to do is shed your addiction and thus present this "sacrificial offering" as a point in your favor as if to impress God and earn His favor. That isn't how the gospel works. Jesus has already died for you. He has already paid the price of your redemption. It's a come as you are party and all you have to do is accept the invitation. You can hear God calling. Otherwise you wouldn't be here. His promise is to give you a new life. If that's what you want, just give up. Now. Give up trying. Give up your life. Surrender everything to God and let God be God. He will recreate you, just trust Him. You are already forgiven. He has already ransomed you from all manner of slavery including all your auditions, whatever they are. All the legal papers of ownership and authority over your life have been signed and delivered. Now all that's left is for you to believe and submit yourself to that authority.
I know that sounds easy. That you don't have to do anything. But that's the gospel. Come as you are, accept God's love, place yourself in His care and patiently watch for the results. Let Him guide and lead you away from temptation. Let Him remove the hunger. Read the scriptures everyday, for they are real power in your life.
And finally, don't ever doubt that God is good and that He wants the very best for you at all times, and the very last thing he wants to do is punish you for your mistakes and sin. That punishment Jesus took in your place.

Hello all. My sister was asking about me tonite, and she was asking if i had gotten saved yet. It was an honest question, and it got me to thinking.
Do you think its possible for a person to struggle with getting saved?? Im not sure if thats the best way to ask it, but can a person who wants to get saved, have multiple attempts, and fail to get it? Is it possible that it could take years for a person wanting to get saved, to actually get saved??
a drowning man resisting his rescue will drown. If he does not resist, he will be saved

There are many here who probably defined what saving faith is.

Saving faith is believing in the Gospel of Christ which is the power of God unto Salvation for any person. (Romans 1:16 I believe)

The gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection. Having faith in Jesus that He died for your sins (and all of the worlds): and that you are forgiven and made right with God because of Jesus imputed righteousness which makes us right with God being justified (Romans 5:1-5), and then we are to die to with Christ and be raised with Christ to live by the spirit (Romans 6:1-25 however many verses) and (Romans 8) Romans 7 mentions our struggle between the flesh and spirit.

This is how faith is described it is turning away and laying aside our old ways of having anger, hatred, covetousness and all of those things and putting on Christ having love for God from the heart, and love for others and love for yourself too.

Hi @Lifelong_sinner

Just wanted to say Im still praying for you and am glad you made it to this forum. I don't think I'm alone in that either.

I really don't want you to go to hell and God doesn't either. I will be praying for you regularly til things get resolved.

I'm curious. Your visble Personal Details Panel (below your avatar) shows you as Christian. Why if that's not true? And why do you hang out on Christian Forums?

I was intrigued by what you said yesterday, but had to go to work so couldn’t respond.
It’s the ‘ If God wants to save me , he will. I am Calvinist ‘ …………the latter tells me that you believe Gods does the choosing , but I wonder what that looks like to you. The reason I ask is that there was a time frame between God calling to me and me coming to faith. I didn’t quite understand what was going on, in that time frame I asked questions for months with very few answers that I understood. Then I was listening to a sermon on Ephesians chapter one ……and just fell to my knees in tears as I realise in my heart that the God who created the universe wanted me to part of his family. However in that period before I still needed to be willing to respond , the desire to be saved was definitely there………..I now know that the in-between stage is classed as seeking. Perhaps that is where you are …….I saw that with my son before he came to faith a few months ago, I saw God calling to him yet he was not really aware……..
In both cases both me and my son still needed to be open to accept that it’s not all about God doing the work, it’s up to us to response as well……….

Yes, the Parable of the Sower is so illuminating. A person can transition from being a Wayside Hearer of the Gospel to being Stoney Ground, then a Weed Patch, and finally Fertile Soil which produces fruit. All this time God the goodness of God plows and sows and waters and nurtures and cultivates through His servants.

i’ve already done that. Been doing that, yet addictions are still here. Not everyone can get saved.

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe with your heart that God raised Him from the dead, YOU SHALL BE SAVED! If you have done that you are saved, no matter how you feel (back to "it's a faith" thing)! The bible says, the Spirit of God bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God; you can know! And yes, everyone CAN get saved.

Just because you got saved, does NOT mean that all your issues, and addiction disappear over night - just keep trusting God that He will perform His word - knowing you are free (even if it does not look like it on the outside) just because God said through is Word that you are free! It will manifest over time!

Yes, and that is talking to people that are already Christians; and it talking about continuing in that sin without repentance, in essence walking out from the kingdom of God - and the protection of God over your life! But getting saved is easy, free, and you need to do nothing but speak, and believe.
