Hello all. My sister was asking about me tonite, and she was asking if i had gotten saved yet. It was an honest question, and it got me to thinking.
Do you think its possible for a person to struggle with getting saved?? Im not sure if thats the best way to ask it, but can a person who wants to get saved, have multiple attempts, and fail to get it? Is it possible that it could take years for a person wanting to get saved, to actually get saved??

I don’t know about everyone here but after I came to faith I didn’t automatically stop have doubts ect. Maybe it was because my experience was not dramatic. You know some people have a ‘ wow ‘ factor after they ask the Lord Jesus into their lives …..not me.

I knew something had changed, but I can’t say I changed straight away or felt very different …..but I know I had come to faith and when I look back I don’t doubt it. At the time it was unnoticeable apart from the fact that I wanted to go to church, wanted to look at scripture and wanted to spend more time with Christians, but that had also happened when I was ‘ seeking ‘ ( the period of time when something prompts you to consider Jesus / gospel message )

Not sure that helps x

I've got my helmet of salvation on as protection against any thoughts of condemnation.

Translate the metaphor into practical reality and it means I believe I'm saved based on the Ten Nine Ten Heart & Mouth Rule (Romans ch.10, vv. 9 & 10)

Rom 10:9-10 That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart God raised him from the dead, you shall be saved. (10) For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Shield of Faith = Protection Impenetrable because of Belief.

Sword of the Spirit = Attack Effectual with the Word that is Perfect.

Praying in the Spirit = Requests Holy not that of the Hypocrite.

Ephesians 6:10 – 20. The Full Armor of God

Entirely possible. You call yourself a Christian and you also call yourself a "Lifelong Sinner". Now you need to make up your mind, since that is an "either/or" proposition. You cannot be both at one and the same time.

The Bible tells us that salvation does not always come quickly but we should continue and hope for it:
Lamentations 3:26 “It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord”.

Keep putting God first in your life:
Matthew 22:37 - Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Keep reading the Bible:
Romans 10:17 : So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Keep repenting from sins:
Matthew 6:24 - No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Romans 8:5 - For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

Keep praying.

Precious friend, and IF you die Before you "beat your addiction" then where will you be? God Saves those who humbly believe HIM, not those who are "trying to get there," nor those who "beat" anything: God's Simple Will!

Thanks for the honest input. So to keep it simple just tell the Lord Jesus that you are an addicted sinner but you want Him to save you right now -- JUST AS YOU ARE. He will save you and give you the gift of eternal life. He will also give you the gift of the Holy Spirit, and by the power of the Holy Spirit you will be set free from all addictions. But you must believe all this in simple faith -- just like a child believes his parents.

i’ve already done that. Been doing that, yet addictions are still here. Not everyone can get saved.

Come to Christ first and trust Him to deliver you from whatever bondage you are in, otherwise you are like a sick person saying they will only take the cure when they are well again.

God does the saving, not us. Why would a repent Christian not be saved?

I guess I just wanted to say first of all that Im glad you take the requirements of a believer seriously.

You seem to be stuck in a rough place. You believe in Christ but you are stuck in a cycle of sin and addiction.

I believe you can be saved. Just everytime you fall, get back up.

Jesus said seven times seventy times if a brother repent, forgive that brother.

I believe if you seriously accept Jesus' blood, and then repent each time you sin, God will begin to work in your life and you eventually will be delivered.

You have the words of a believer and the motivation to be Holy, so I will pray for God to clarify some things for you.

I don't know if anyone else thinks this is a sin, but for me, it was. I smoked for years and years. It started bothering me when i cam back to the Lord. I would pray for deliverance, but was unable to stop. I decided, and really think God prompted this, to start vaping. I went from full strength e juice to 0 e juice, and then gave up vaping once I was using 0% for two weeks. It's now been over 5 years that I have not smoked or vaped.
I think some of us have to use different methods to stop. My deliverance I credit to the Lord, for the tapering idea, and that He helped me bring the % down bit by bit,

BY the way ,lifelong sinner, glad to meet you. I am chief of sinners.

You'll never "get there" by being good enough. Salvation is by grace through faith in Christ. Abraham believed God and that belief in God was accounted to him as righteousness.

Romans 4:3-8
[3]For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
[4]Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
[5]But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
[6]Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
[7]Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
[8]Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

Your faith is in the wrong place. Faith in self and your own ability will not get you into the kingdom of God.

There is only one "work" that we need to do to be saved and that is, "believe." Have faith in God.

John 6:28-29
[28]Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
[29]Jesus answered and said unto them,
This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
