For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me. - Romans 7:11.

Human beings like the notion that human beings have a human nature. That's what we say - whether it's true or not.. people like the word itself because it excuses them or humanity from having to straighten up so to say. Act right - we just want to pass it off as my human nature "oh if it wasn't for being human with a nature, I could live right." Whatever people say - human nature is an excuse to live what they think feels right.. with the hopes of no repercussions because I'm just human.

Whatever is in the mind "as a man thinketh" scripture says, is what comes out of man. So what you dwell on is what you will do. So you have the power over your mind is the point. Even in law it is up to you to live it. So it is in grace..it will be up to you to live it, or allow it.. because all of life flows through your mind.

The law was given to expose the sin nature..to expose men had a sinning nature. Paul gives us the reason men sin - by their nature, Romans 7. That nature had to be held in control - put in check - the Lord did that by the law. It gave humanity a fighting chance against the sin in them (that is how they kept sin in control in the Old Testament). The law gave the mind a chance to put down the nature. When in sin..a nature that cannot obey the law and lived out that nature. The outcome Paul said was a reprobate mind. The end of a mind that will not control the sinning nature is a reprobate mind! Christian do not have to worry about a reprobate mind - our minds can get double minded but not reprobate because of the new nature in Christ.

If you spend your days looking at all your troubles and never see a light.. you stay depressed. It is the mind that is the most widely dealt with subject in scripture, more than spirit, because that is how your life will be lived by your mind. Even to walk in the spirit, your mind has to allow walking in the spirit. We are not robots..far from it. We are very intricate beings - King David said "we are wonderfully made."

24 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. - Psalm 139:14.

So it is a mind issue - After calvary and you believing on the Lord Jesus Christ - it becomes a mind issue. I know that is not a real good term to use 'mind issue' but it is true. Just about anything we do and come across in this life will have to do with the mind. Even in spiritual matters - it is the mind that allows the spirit to work out of you.

Even in getting the mind of Christ..you must allow it. You see how important it is to get your mind fixed. The mind is a tricky..loves games and all that comes from just being human - at least that is the excuse. The mind has suffered abuses and is very protective of it's humanity. Paul does away with all excuses in his Epistles. There is no such thing as human nature - not in scripture. It only exsists in what people believe about the humans beings make up. So all excuses of why I do this or why I do that..are overshadowed in Paul's Epistles..with no excuses. The wonderful thing you find out about the way our father is shown in scripture is; there is no grey areas. It is all black and white, he doesn't beat around the bush..he says it exactly the way people need to read it. If I choose to believe scripture a certain way - that is the mind at work trying to just be human. It is the oldest excuse recorded.

Challenge of the day!

Go one day without saying "me ..I ..my life ..I can ..I will ..my life ..my needs ..or anything that has to do with your old crucified self we are still carrying around.

wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: - Ephesians 2:2.

That day is far spent and this is a new day to live what you know and are learning. Practice living life in the scripture as scripture gives life. It will be a mind issue to live what you know! You must learn how to live the new life in Christ. Allow Christ to live and have a mind - even your mind. Give Christ that is in you a mind! you want productivity in your walk with God - give Christ your mind today!

What Apostle Paul defined that fights against our spirit, and causes the majority of our sins, is our FLESH.

And God's Word also teaches that our flesh is NOT... the real us. The real us is our soul with spirit, which is not of flesh, but is only temporarily connected to flesh while alive here on earth.

Self-righteousness!

It is not actually possible to be self-righteous:

Only to have an attitude or outlook that is self-righteous:

By nature we possess nothing of goodness, cannot even formulate one good thought:

All we have that is our own is sin and its consequences:

So we MUST have help from God in a million different ways to be good and holy:

We need God to give us grace, virtues, strength, and all our needs!

We need God to give us faith:
We need God to give us hope:
We need God to give us charity:
We need God to give us grace:
We need God to give us strength:

And so ALL honour, glory, and thanksgiving MUST be into God!

Scripture:

1 cor 4:7
For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?

2 Corinthians 12:9
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Galatians 2:20
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

We must be united with Christ the only mediator of the only covenant in grace thru faith & baptism: Heb 3:14 partakers with Christ!

Mk 16:16 Jn 3:5 acts 2:38-39 acts 8:36-38 1 cor 12:13 gal 3:27 Titus 3:5
1 Peter 3:20-21

Grace enables us to be holy, pure, and righteous:

We must surrender our free will to conform to God’s will, deny ourselves and take up our cross and follow Him:

Luke 9:23
And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

Matthew 7:14
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

2 Timothy 2:19
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity!

Matt 13:41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;

42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

All good must be obtained from God:

Matthew 7:7
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

Apart from Christ we can do nothing:

Jn 15:5
apart from me you can do nothing:

United to Christ thru grace we can do good and become holy, pure, & sanctified, and our faith, works, (virtue, fasts, alms, prayer) are meritorious and we receive reward for them:

Matt 6:20
build up for yourselves treasure in heaven.

Matt 6:33
seek yes first the kingdom of God and his righteousness.

Romans 2:6
Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

Matt 25:46
And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

We must suffer with Christ:

Luke 24:26
Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?

John 15:20
Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

Colossians 1:24
Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ (our participation) in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:

Matthew 10:38
And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

Matthew 16:24
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Matthew 16:25
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

Matt 24:13 he who endures unto the end shall be saved.

Matthew 7:19-23 “Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'”

Matthew 10:22 “All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.”

Matthew 24:9-13 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.”

John 12:24
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

25
He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

Romans 5:3
And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

Romans 5:4
And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

Romans 8:17
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

1 Corinthians 9:27 “No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.”

2 Corinthians 12:9
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

2 Thessalonians 1:5
Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:

Colossians 1:11
Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

2 Tim 2:3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

2 Timothy 2:12
If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

Phil 1:29
For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

James 1:2-8
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing

Hebrews 6:12
That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Hebrews 10:36
For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

Hebrews 12:4
Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

1 Peter 2:20
For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

Romans 8:17
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

2 Timothy 2:12
If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

Self-righteous is only an accusation by those who accuse Christians of earning salvation against those who obey and are faithful!

We must avoid the near occasions of sin:

Examples:

If you ask for the grace to be sober and not a drunkard, but go to the bar everyday after work you are not being faithful. Or if you ask the grace to be pure, you must have custody of the eyes and not look upon every woman you pass with lust.

This is not earning salvation but being faithful, worthy of the grace of God!

We must ask the grace of daily Perseverance in God’s grace and to conform to His will, and to ask daily for final perseverance in God’s grace!

Ask and you shall receive, deliver us oh Lord from all evil!

John 14:15
If ye love me, keep my commandments.

1 Corinthians 16:22
If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema

We must choose to love God!

My God I believe, adore, hope, & love Thee, I ask pardon for those who do not believe, adore, hope, & love Thee!

All honour, glory, and thanksgiving to God for His infinite goodness unto man!

Praise to the divine heart of Jesus, that wrought our salvation!

Blessed be God!

Sin is hating others, unbelief, having no love.

“And then he added, “It is what comes from inside that defiles you. For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.”

Yes that is what is in man. But what is it that makes all that come about in man. God did not create man with sin. It's ok for man to think they are the bad one..if that is all they want to know. That is an easy call..but what makes them do what they do..go to the root not just the manifestation? What say you Matthew?

Oh sin by flesh man is not what entered into this present world. That idea is an old Catholic myth, even though we know Adam's sin was imparted to all flesh. Still, it was not the very first... sin against God.

Satan... is who committed the very first sin. And that was in the old world when he did that, long before the time of Adam and Eve. Haven't you ever read the parable in Ezekiel 28 about him when God originally created him perfect in his ways?

To judge ourselves looking deep into our soul.

“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.”

Sin is defined by Apostle John in The New Testament as "the transgression of the law"!

1 John 3:4
4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
KJV

Why do so many brethren try to get away from John's definition of sin there when it so accurately defines what sin is?

So was Apostle John not up-to-date about Jesus fulfilling the law? Didn't John know that the law is now dead, since Lord Jesus died on the cross?

No, John well knew that Lord Jesus did not fulfill all of God's laws upon His cross, otherwise John would have never... said what he did above.

Ok, what is your answer! Give an answer for sin in the world if you have one?

You need to 'see' with a wide scope, about sin, and how and when it started.

1 John 3:8
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

KJV

Hebrews 2 gives us a bit more of a clue about that...

Heb 2:14-15
14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also Himself likewise took part of the same; that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
KJV

Do you recall in Revelation 21 that in the new heavens and new earth there will be no more death?

Rev 21:4
4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

KJV

That's hard for many to imagine, no more death. The concept of death is so much a part of this present world, that most think it is part of God's natural perfect idea of creation. It's not. Just the fact that in God's future Kingdom there will be no more death reveals this.

Hebrews 2:14 above reveals how 'death' originally got started. And if one remembers what Apostle Paul taught about sin and death in the Book of Romans, that applies there about Satan too.

Satan sinned from the beginning, Apostle John says. Per the parable in Ezekiel 28, Satan was originally without sin. He was originally 'perfect in thy ways' before he rebelled in COVETING God's Throne. That is how he fell, and when he fell, but in that old world, not this present world. By the time Satan was in Eden tempting Adam and Eve, he had already sinned against God, and was in his role as Adversary.

That is why God brought this present 'temporary' world earth age, which is to perish by fire. It's to see who wants to be with Him and His Son for the future new heavens and a new earth. In that future world there won't be any sin, nor death. That suggests that it was a similar time back in the old world before... Satan rebelled, no death, no sin.

Satan caused it. This is why the power of death has been assigned to him. And per the end of Revelation 20, Satan, death, and hell, all go into the future "lake of fire".

‭‭James‬ ‭1:22-27‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Sin is hating others, unbelief, having no love.

“And then he added, “It is what comes from inside that defiles you. For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭7:20-22‬ ‭NLT‬‬
Faith is BELIEF IN JESUS CHRIST . I would like to give a biblical example of hate . SO as we make sure we are not following hate
and yet calling it love .
Remember how JOHN said if you hate your brother you are in darkness .
And a murderer and no murderer has eternal life in them .
Then remember this as well cause its murder and hate . YOU shall not hate your neighbor in your heart
you shall in any way rebuke and correct him and not allow SIN upon Him . yeah , not correcting those in error , IS HATE .
There is a false love getting taught these days and we better not heed it .

@MatthewG Great passage to remember...

Yes my life was involved with darkness and hatred for all people and even God. My life changed when I realized I needed something more than the world could provide, and it was to seek after Jesus Christ.

Have a good day, feel free to message if you would like to talk, or if anyone has questions please free to pm me.

Thanks, I don't understand why we see God as against creation but I do get it because of the sin. I don't agree with God checking to see who will follows him, but that is just two different understandings. Can you expound on the first verse you quoted some more if you would thanks. I John 3:8.

Look at the nature - fruit of the nature is the manifestation of sin.

You mean, how do we know that's what Apostle John was talking about in that verse, that Satan was the first sinner? It's pretty easy to figure out, because in Ezekiel 28 God shows that He originally created Satan perfect without sin. And we surely know Satan was without sin at what time? and that was when he was in Eden at God's Altar without sin like the Ezekiel 28 Scripture shows.

We well know that was not in the time of Adam and Eve in God's Eden, because Satan was there as tempter by that time, showing he had already fallen. We have to go back in time, before Adam and Eve in God's Garden.

The parable in Ezekiel 31 analogous to Satan is another clue when Satan was originally perfect in following God, but that chapter is kind of difficult if one hasn't studied many of the symbols given there in other OT Books. It goes deeper than the Ezekiel 28 example does.
