And to think Granddaughter was offered an engineering scholarship! But, she felt called to be a teacher, like Grandma.

Grandma taught elementary school children, and later pre-Kindergarteners in what was basically a private day-care center. Kids are easier to handle at that age. Seventh- and Eighth graders can be "psychotic", to use Granddaughter's term.

And then there's the problems that affect society in general: She had a couple kids get busted in the middle of class for having weed in their backpacks. One kid's mother shot daddy because she was tired of being punched around. Some of her kids are scared to go home; she thinks they're being abused. She caught one boy watching porn on his cell phone in class. (We of course had kids smuggle copies of Penthouse magazine into school, but the stuff you see on the internet is much worse.) One kid doesn't know English and Granddaughter doesn't speak Korean; how do you teach him? Breaking up fights. Busted families. Racial hostilities. The political animosity that infects this country. Vaping in the restrooms. (I remember the song, "Smoking in the Boy's Room" from the '70s; I guess it hasn't changed much.) The boy-girl thing and all that comes with it. (That was always there, but these days, it's hyper-sexualized.)

Tough time to be a kid, too.

Granddaughter has seen a lot in less than a year on the job. They didn't tell her about this stuff in college.

I will take some time to cover her and her school in prayer right now.

At my school, some of us would gather and pray in the yard over the school. I think it made a great impact. A teacher is one of the main reasons why Im a Christian today.

Through His Word, through His precious Word, God is healing me.

I read Ephesians 3 and started crying. To let the heart be rooted and grounded in love, that we might comprehend the height, depth, and width of it and have fulness in Christ.

It's one thing to know in your head that God loves you. Its another to experience it in your heart.

She had to sit one girl down and explain why posting nude selfies online is a really, really bad idea. Breaking up fights. Busted families. Racial hostilities. The political animosity that infects this country. Vaping in the restrooms. The boy-girl thing and all that comes with it. (That was always there, but these days, it's hyper-sexualized.)

This breaks my heart. I had a really good childhood. What do we do for them?

Sorry to hear this. You're family is helping them which is a good thing!
Granddaughter felt better after talking to Grandma. They have a special bond there.

My Granddaughter is the youngest teacher in the school, and the administration gave her the "Sweat-hogs" class, if you remember the old Welcome Back Kotter TV show. The kids want to relate to her because she's closest to them age-wise. She cares about them, but she knows she can't be their friend because she has to be the authority figure. But she does give them a sympathetic ear.

I also worry that faith is not important to Granddaughter, and that probably ought to be my first prayer. I don't think she knows Jesus.

Her home life growing up wasn't so hot. As a Military "brat", her dad was away for months at a time, and her Mom was verbally abusive to the point that she tried to take her own life. Then he came back from Afghanistan really screwed up (see avatar), and the fighting got worse. I have an indelible memory of her as a 16-year-old curled up in a fetal position sucking her thumb after one of her parents' outbursts. I wish to God I could unsee that - but I can't.

When her parents' marriage broke up, her boyfriend's parents took her in. It may have saved her life, but they (to the best of my knowledge) are not Christians (and they had their own issues), so she never developed any real faith of her own. She's going to need it.

Thank you for listening. I kinda needed to take an emotional dump there.

Praying that God pulls her in! He is almighty and powerful to the redemption of mankind.

Hi Wynona. How was your day?

I just finished the book of Matthew, making notes in the margins. I missed the detail of dead saints being resurrected and walking around after the crucifixion.

I love reading Jesus' words and about his life. Although I hated reading about the soldiers who mocked Jesus and the Jews who said Let his blood be on our hands. Yikes.

Today was also a volunteer day and I have the women's Bible Study tonight.

Service is so important, as Jesus came not to be served but to serve.

I think they left out many details about Jesus' life and ministry because words probably failed to capture it. Also, as it says in John, all the libraries in the world couldn't contain it all.

Whenever I read that, I just want to sit at the Lord's feet and listen to Him tell about his life on earth.

I didn't have such an insightful idea. I have to step back from the lord, he is too great.

I saw a bunny cross the road this morning. It's nice to see wildlife flourishing but I would have rather he didn't cross the road. We've lost tons of squirrels to traffic in the past few years.
