They couldn't allow that new law go to waste. Clear the bill and then manufacture a reason to prosecute the law.

The month after September 11 what is termed the Patriot Act , H.R 3162, formal title, Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001, was a bill of over 100 pages.

It was introduced to the House October 23rd. It was amended multiple times and passed the House October 24th . It passed the Senate on the 25th and was signed into law by President George W. Bush on the 26th.

The agenda in America is nothing if not organized and prepared to create conflict and then expand government jurisdiction so to quell the conflicted.

A bit like a cat orchestrating a rat infestation in a neighborhood. Only to then create a rat trap manufacturer with a door to door sales force offering a deal on rat traps after local government passed a law making possession of rat traps compulsory.

SCOTUS has rendered many positive rulings, concealed carry permits, illegal immigrants no path to citizenship or green cards to work, Gorsuch ruling opinion on businesses have a right to refuse service if it is against their conscience or belief

The devil's machinations are insidious. The threat of us combating totalitarian regimes, like in the Islamic world, is that we abandon our principles of individual liberty and limited government. The 1st Amendment only applies to so-called hate speech.

With that said, everything that exists is limited, including the 1st Amendment. It does not protect against calls for violence. More importantly, it does not apply to the States. The Courts have been the biggest destroyer of freedom in this country and one way they did this is by the principle known as "incorporation." It means text that does not explicitly apply to restrain the States is nevertheless used to restrain the States.

Re-read the preamble to the Constitution.

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic​

Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.​

The policy of importing people from totalitarian regimes are the ones who are fomenting such lack of domestic tranquility, and why we suffer. They should all be deported. What you sow is what you reap.

I do not see how this law passed erodes free speech.

We are free to speak, as long as it does not threaten others or erode their rights! You cannot yell fire in a movie house, or I have a bomb on an airplane.

Free speech that is not civil, is not free.
