Healing

I’ve been sitting with my feet up for most of today because I my ankles are swollen. I had prayed for them to go back to normal and that got me thinking about healing in general.

Although I have been troubled by a persistent cough for a large part of my life and lost count of the times I have prayed for healing and others too have prayed about it but still it persists. But I have received healing for other things like a breast lump and Bell’s palsy.

I’m sure we all have prayed for healing, either for ourselves or others and will have seen some answers as the healings took place but also, and probably more often we have prayed and not received the healing we asked for.

My thoughts led me to realise that although we don’t always see physical healings taking place in ourselves or others we are very blessed to have received healing for our spirits and even when sick or in pain we can know God’s presence with us and have that peace that transcends understanding that without Jesus we would not have. A peace that the unsaved to not realise could be theirs if they let Jesus into their lives.

You are so correct, we sometimes get so caught up with our health concerns and well being but this is just our fleshly body. We are all going to go through illnesses, injuries, and we'll all die from something, this is just part of life. It doesn't hurt to pray for healing and you might, or might not, get better depending on God's will, but it's our spiritual relationship that's important, the body is just the "tent" we live in while here on earth.

A good verse is 2 Corinthians 12:8-10 (KJV) where Paul prays for an impairment he has (probably bad eyesight per other biblical references):
For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

I had to work through this when I had abcesses on my teeth last year ( dealing with another one at the moment but it’s not giving me any pain and I haven’t had a face like marlon Brando in the God father !! ) Teeth problems always drag me down, and last year caused me to question so much. I questioned God, questioned my faith, questioned everything in fact. Yet looking back I got through it, I coped. I thought I had messed up going to the dentist, failed to trust ect ect
The other day I was reading something on the forum and a thought just popped into my head, a reminder, that God uses others to be the answers to our prayers……..Okay, I didn’t save my tooth, but the issues got sorted eventually.
This time round it’s being sorted , and even though the initial tooth ache threw me into a tailspin downwards again ( more so because it was when we were waiting for my dads diagnosis and also my daughters op date had come through, I really didn’t need an abscess ) The Lord provided an answer in a unexpected way…….I went to the dentist and unusually there were two dentists on that day ( which has never happened in the ten years I have been going ) I saw a different dentist and he was just so helpful and offered a way forward with dealing with the problem. It was such a small thing but It was one that encouraged me because it was unexpected.
Sorry this is not such a big deal with what others are facing, but we all have our weak spots, with me it’s my teeth !!

Amen sister! I avoided praying or laying hands on people for a healing because although it was a gift I had, I also noted that those with such gifts tended to be unwell themselves in someway or another. It reminded me of Paul's thorn in the flesh. I'm not concerned about praying for healings or laying on hands for healing any more because God didn't give out his gifts so that we can choose when we want to use them. He gave them out to change lives and to show that he is a mighty God who heals all those who ask in the name of Jesus xox

I've been healed of things too. Not everything though. Yes we can have the peace of the Holy Spirit with us. And that makes life more livable.
