It doesn't?

Check it out:

If you're inclined to read books about the Bible, I highly recommend ones written or translated during the Second Great Awakening (roughly throughout the 1800s). You'll see a lot less of folks superimposing their opinions and experience on Scripture.

The effects of Marxism and postmodernism (asserting the self) beginning around the turn of the 20th century are uncannily opposite.

But now I'm lecturing/sermonizing. :)

E.M. Bounds's books on prayer are excellent. Andrew Murray's works are very good as well. Just a couple of places to start exploring. CCEL.org used to be a good resource. Many books are free or $1 for Kindle. :)

Maybe part of learning to have the Godly speech is going through a time where you just have to bite your tongue a lot.

Then, you can learn to speak in an edifying way.
I think it's important to realize the harm done to others by corrupt speech. It's a matter of the heart. Do we want to build up or tear down? Too many who claim the Name of Christ desire to destroy others, and it shows in their speaking.

Controlling corrupt speech (putrified, unfit for use) is simply putting off the old man who speaks that way. Truly, out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

We can look at how we speak to others as the barometer of our heart.

A heart that loves will endeaver to speak out that love, though we may have old habits to break.

Much love!

This is true. It's not enough to keep biting your tongue but to transform your thoughts and motives.

God is more willing than evil men are to give good gifts to His children. Since the Spirit is the agency by which we are to bear everlasting fruit, to receive consolation in every disappointment, power in every challenging situation, joy even in the midst of diverse troubles, and even wisdom to overcome the things we think, say, and do that lessen the quality of life in ourselves as well as others, why do we not plead long for the heavenly gift, speak of it, preach concerning it?

When I think of what little belief I, myself, actually exercise in the promises showered throughout His word, I am ashamed. Thank God for His inexpressible mercy!
Amen!!
