I grew up Orthodox and when I finally went out on my own, I turned agnostic atheist for about 11 years because I wanted to be my own light. God brought me back to the faith in the most mysterious way I never thought possible. I was an atheist mainly for the sake of logic or at least that’s what I believed I was doing. I’ve always cared about truth so I read about other philosophies and religions. I would have never thought that it would be through logic (which is God given), that I would be Christian again.
This simple realization is all it took:
Everyone has a sense of Truth. Even those who say there is no truth, are making an absolute truth claim. Only 3 “possibilities” exist for Truth with only one of them being real. Either we recognize God as the absolute, take ourselves to be God, or take something else to be God. Those who say they don’t believe in God or claim God does not exist either take themselves or something else to be God. What’s the problem here?
We are limited and so is everything else. Only Truth can be eternal which is why it’s called truth. We human beings are fallible and it is so much more work in my opinion to be atheist than to be Christian in the sense that an atheist is trying to take the burden of God which is impossible. Who is any human being to think that they could be God? It’s foolish.
An even greater deception that’s far more subtle is the belief that science is truth, also known as scientism. The atheist may say, “I’m not the source of truth, science is what leads us to truth.” But who carries out the science? Are the instruments of observation not just extensions of our limited senses? Is science impervious to bias and corruption? What did the government try to do to Oppenheimer (the father of the atomic bomb)? Modern science has set the bar too high for itself to clear. Everything must be tested via the scientific method, but the scientific method itself has not been tested against everything, because that would require us to have explored every corner of reality.
That leaves us with the final option: God must be eternal. And not just any God, but Jesus. All roads point back to Jesus, most religions pay some sort of respect to Jesus. Islam considers Jesus to be important…new age gurus consider Jesus to have been a wise teacher, etc. I didn’t choose to cause any division, the nature of Truth is divisive from all that is false. It is better to follow the truth, than to be united in error.
