Here is an interesting article I found on Fox News that is apparently still being forced on public population areas under the authority to enforce particulate reduction breathing shields. They call them COVID, Flu and Cold masks.
Mask mandates return for health care facilities in deep blue state
From the story:
"Santa Clara County will exempt children under age 2 and people with medical conditions for whom wearing a mask could obstruct breathing or who are unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove a mask without assistance."
I have had some experience wearing the masks that I was also required to wear long after the COVID pandemic had been reported as "ended".

"The federal Public Health Emergency for COVID-19 expired on May 11, 2023."
We had used them in the industry for limiting the particle count of unhealthy dust in air during manufacturing. What we did find in that area of industry was the color of the particles and the general flow and facial imprint thru out the course of a work day. After work there were a lot of particle discoloration around the mouth and all within the mask area, including the nasal passages. Which clearly indicated a conduction of dust in the airways.
Although the amount of toxic dust was lessened to "some" degree, there still was much penetration of the harmful particles around and thru the mask material, if I remember correctly.
I believe the initial argument was that COVID was spread thru water droplets in the air from infected persons. A good solid cough will undoubtedly send air with moister droplets and potentially other infected airway material out of the mask thru pressure induced non-sealing areas and perhaps penetrate the mask material itself.
I am concerned about the real issue at hand and that was slightly hinted to in the declaration I have already stated from Santa Clara County:
"Santa Clara County will exempt... people with medical conditions for whom wearing a mask could obstruct breathing"
The normal respiration of the human in the non restricted air of the outdoors is fairly oxygenated at about 21% oxygen and 78% nitrogen. The Atmosphere
So there is this old "breath in a bag" idea that floats around in history for people in panic attacks. Let's examine the nonsensical idea of breathing continuously into a paper bag for "too long":
Using A Paper Bag To Control Hyperventilation | NYP
From the article:
Follow these precautions when using the bag method:
I now have similar concerns about the overall O2 values in mask wearing persons and also the rate of breathing while wearing the mask in the bodies attempt to get enough oxygen into the lungs while exhausting the CO2 increased and exhaled lung gases. Oxygen is exchanged by CO2 in the natural process of lung air exchange to regulated health blood saturation O2 levels.

From the article:
Follow these precautions when using the bag method:
- Do not use a plastic bag.
- Do not breathe continuously into a paper bag. Take 6 to 12 natural breaths, with a paper bag held over your mouth and nose, then remove the bag from your nose and mouth.
- Do not hold the bag for the person who is hyperventilating. Allow the person to hold the bag over his or her own mouth and nose.
