The quote "But he who endures to the end will be saved" most certainly appears in the Bible - [three times, in fact] - and is oft quoted stripped from its surrounding context and employed to teach that men either:
  1. can loose their salvation
  2. must work to retain their salvation
Clearly, it is not a "proof text" for O.S.A.S. :) , but below I offer the verse within its context and solicit an honest answer and discussion to the question posted in the title:

Matthew 10:16-26 [NKJV]
16 "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. 17 "But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues. 18 "You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. 19 "But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; 20 "for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.
21 "Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father [his] child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. 22 "And you will be hated by all for My name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved. 23 "When they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For assuredly, I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
24 "A disciple is not above [his] teacher, nor a servant above his master. 25 "It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more [will they call] those of his household! 26 "Therefore do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.

Matthew 24:3-22 [NKJV]
3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things be? And what [will be] the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?"
4 And Jesus answered and said to them: "Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 "For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. 6 "And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all [these things] must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 "All these [are] the beginning of sorrows.
9 "Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name's sake. 10 "And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 "Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 "And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 "But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.
15 "Therefore when you see the 'abomination of desolation,' spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place" (whoever reads, let him understand), 16 "then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 "Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. 18 "And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. 19 "But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 20 "And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 "For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 "And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect's sake those days will be shortened.

Mark 13:3-20 [NKJV]
3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked Him privately, 4 "Tell us, when will these things be? And what [will be] the sign when all these things will be fulfilled?"
5 And Jesus, answering them, began to say: "Take heed that no one deceives you. 6 "For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am [He],' and will deceive many. 7 "But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for [such things] must happen, but the end [is] not yet. 8 "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These [are] the beginnings of sorrows.
9 "But watch out for yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils, and you will be beaten in the synagogues. You will be brought before rulers and kings for My sake, for a testimony to them. 10 "And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations. 11 "But when they arrest [you] and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand, or premeditate what you will speak. But whatever is given you in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. 12 "Now brother will betray brother to death, and a father [his] child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. 13 "And you will be hated by all for My name's sake. But he who endures to the end shall be saved.
14 "So when you see the 'abomination of desolation,' spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not" (let the reader understand), "then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 15 "Let him who is on the housetop not go down into the house, nor enter to take anything out of his house. 16 "And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. 17 "But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 18 "And pray that your flight may not be in winter. 19 "For [in] those days there will be tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the creation which God created until this time, nor ever shall be. 20 "And unless the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect's sake, whom He chose, He shortened the days.

The words of Jesus here, indicate that the salvation of which he speaks is not acquired until the person is judged favorably during the time of the end:

Matt. 24:9 “Then people will hand you over to tribulation and will kill you, and you will be hated by all the nations on account of my name. 10 Then, too, many will be stumbled and will betray one another and will hate one another. 11 Many false prophets will arise and mislead many; 12 and because of the increasing of lawlessness, the love of the greater number will grow cold. 13 But the one who has endured to the end will be saved.

Were they "saved" during the great tribulation? NO ... They weren't even spared having to go through the great tribulation for a while, and the consequences they will have to suffer will probably be very unpleasant. They had yet to be saved out of that:

Matt. 24:21 for then there will be great tribulation such as has not occurred since the world’s beginning until now, no, nor will occur again. 22 In fact, unless those days were cut short, no flesh would be saved; but on account of the chosen ones those days will be cut short.

... Then, when will be that salvation of them? At the end of the great tribulation:

Rev. 7:13 In response one of the elders said to me: “These who are dressed in the white robes, who are they and where did they come from?” 14 So right away I said to him: “My lord, you are the one who knows.” And he said to me: “These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 That is why they are before the throne of God, and they are rendering him sacred service day and night in his temple; and the One seated on the throne will spread his tent over them.

The great crowd that will survive the great tribulation will shout happily after their salvation

Rev. 7:9 After this I saw, and look! a great crowd, which no man was able to number, out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes; and there were palm branches in their hands. 10 And they keep shouting with a loud voice, saying: “Salvation we owe to our God, who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb.”

What benefits will those who are part of that great crowd receive after their salvation?

Rev. 7:16 They will hunger no more nor thirst anymore, neither will the sun beat down on them nor any scorching heat, 17 because the Lamb, who is in the midst of the throne, will shepherd them and will guide them to springs of waters of life. And God will wipe out every tear from their eyes.”

Why does "saved" depend on enduring?

Who is "he"?
All Christians
What is "endured"?
Keeping the faith until the end of this system. Mat 24 is a prophecy of the last days, the period of time from the time Jesus was enthroned as King, until his return to remove the wicked from the earth. So upon his return only those living the faith will be preserved.
When is the "end"?
the end of the great tribulation
Where does this happen?
here on the earth

Why does "saved" depend on enduring?

Salvation is receiving the gift of life. When we become a Christian, we sign on eternally

Who is "he"?

What is "endured"?

When is the "end"?

Where does this happen?

Why does "saved" depend on enduring?

Keep it simple man.

In ALL three examples, Jesus said that within the context of the "great tribulation" at the end of this world. The Matthew 24 and Mark 13 versions specifically were included in His Olivet discourse while He and His disciples were upon the Mount of Olives, and they asked Him about the Sign of His future coming and the end of the world.

1. Who is "he"?
Those who overcome in Christ Jesus for the 'end', the time of "great tribulation" (Matthew 24:21; Mark 13:19).

2. What is "endured"?
The time of "great tribulation" for the END of this world, a short period that happens just prior to Christ's future return. Some of Christ's elect are to be delivered up to councils and synagogues to give a Testimony for Jesus against them, speaking BY THE HOLY SPIRIT (see Mark 13).

3. "When is the "end"?
The latter half of the Daniel 9:27 symbolic "one week". Half of the one week is a period of 1260 days. This is tied to the time the dragon will have power and the Gentiles will tread the holy city, which is given in 42 months. That 42 months is the same time as 1260 days. (See Rev.11 and Rev.13).

4. Where does this happen?
Over the WHOLE WORLD, but events involving the Jews in Jerusalem for the end is specific to that area. But the "great tribulation" will be a time of persecution of Christ's elect over the whole... world.

5. Why does "saved" depend on enduring?

Because the "great tribulation" period is going to involve a false-Messiah setup as king and Messiah in Jerusalem, and will have powers to work great signs, wonders, and miracles to fool the WHOLE WORLD into thinking he is GOD having come. Apostle Paul warned those in Christ about this in 2 Thessalonians 2. Jesus warned His about it in His Olivet discourse. It involves taking the mark of the beast, and/or bowing to the IDOL abomination he will setup, called in Rev.13 the "image of the beast". So just like Daniel and his fellows who were commanded to bow in worship to the golden idol image of Nebuchadnezzar, or be killed, that is the kind of time this final event will be upon those in Christ Jesus.

Who is "he"?

What is "endured"?

When is the "end"?

Where does this happen?

Why does "saved" depend on enduring?

  1. "He" refers to Jesus' disciples, but also to those to whom they were and are sent.
  2. Each must "endure" the attacks on them as they walk from coming unto the knowledge of the truth, to going the way of the Master, whom is Christ.
  3. "The end" has two meanings: Christ is "the End" by name, and the "end" of Him in the flesh was crucifixion. To that End/end, all who would be His, must come into Him (and He in them) as "crucified with" Him.
  4. "The end" occurs "in Christ."
  5. Salvation depends on enduring to the end of one's self, where "it is no longer they who live, but Christ who lives in them." And unless one is willing to say that Christ after being crucified could have lost His salvation--there is no loss of salvation possible for those who "were crucified with" Him. For "it is no longer they who live, but Christ who lives in them."

Who is "he"?

What is "endured"?

When is the "end"?

Where does this happen?

Why does "saved" depend on enduring?

It is simple really. Teh context of Matthew 24 where this is found is the 7 year tribulation. In the second half- people half to take the mark or die or go into hiding.

In one sense it is about retaining salvation- for in the tribulation time the only ones to not take the mark are believers and the Jews. to take the mark means yo0u never were saved.

So one has to endure not taking the mark and all the potential troubles that come with that- and they will be not saved in salvation sense, but delivered and granted entrance into the millennial kingdom.

There are survivors of the tribulation. they are either sheep or goats as is declared in Matt. 25. when Jesus returns and sits on HIs throne on earth, He separates teh sheep from teh goats- the sheep are the ones that endured the tribulation in faith.

The quote "But he who endures to the end will be saved" most certainly appears in the Bible - [three times, in fact] - and is oft quoted stripped from its surrounding context and employed to teach that men either:

The save-- is salvation from what? Hell? No. It's salvation from trials and tribulations during end times.

Again.. this is not a verse about eternal salvation. It has nothing to do with salvation. It's about enduring trials.

In the bible there are two kinds of salvation.. one is deliverance daily.. exercising daily faith in Jesus.. and this is also enduring trials also. The other is eternal salvation.. which has nothing to do with endurance.. daily exercise of faith etc..

Of course someone has to be converted to be able to exercise daily faith in Jesus and endure trials, but this endurance and trials isn't the means OF eternal salvation.

Eternal salvation is from believing Jesus is God, that He died and rose again, and that by believing in Him, you have everlasting life. It's a gift.. not strings.. not earned.. unmerited.. unfavoured.

Daily salvation-- is the response to having been given this.. not the means by which it is given.

See most of the book of John for eternal salvation plus Romans 5:8, Romans 10 and a raft of other verses for it.

For daily faith. .endurance.. see James 2.

Daily salvation... endurance is not dependent on eternal salvation. They are seperate.. the relationship between the two is that you gotta have eternal salvation to be able to exercise daily faith in Jesus.

"But he who endures to the end shall be saved

Those who did not take the mark, who are the saints of God. The ones who take the mark of the beast are all worshipping Satan and his false beast, false Christ, that antichrist figure.

Rev 13
6 Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. 7 It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every [a]tribe, tongue, and nation. 8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

One of the heads mortally wounded, was what Christ did, however the beast's life was preserved for a time to fulfil all the word of the Lord which He spoke.

2 Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. 3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed.

Genesis 3, The Lord tells us what Christ will do to the serpent.

13 And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”

The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

14 So the Lord God said to the serpent:

“Because you have done this,
You are cursed more than all cattle,
And more than every beast of the field;
On your belly you shall go,
And you shall eat dust
All the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her Seed;
He shall bruise your head,
And you shall bruise His heel.”

Daniel 7, the antichrist figure, same as Rev 13 6-8

25 He shall speak pompous words against the Most High,
Shall persecute[j] the saints of the Most High,
And shall intend to change times and law.
Then the saints shall be given into his hand
For a time and times and half a time.

Daniel 7 speaks of this time of the end as written in Revelation where there is the war on the saints and how they are overcome for a time in the last days of the world. Traditional thinking is 3.5 years of time, and 7 years of great tribulation, verse 8 is the antichrist as people typically think of that figure.

Then the saints shall be given into his hand
For a time and times and half a time.

2 Daniel spoke, saying, “I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were stirring up the Great Sea. 3 And four great beasts came up from the sea, each different from the other. 4 The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings. I watched till its wings were plucked off; and it was lifted up from the earth and made to stand on two feet like a man, and a man’s heart was given to it.

5 “And suddenly another beast, a second, like a bear. It was raised up on one side, and had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. And they said thus to it: ‘Arise, devour much flesh!’

6 “After this I looked, and there was another, like a leopard, which had on its back four wings of a bird. The beast also had four heads, and dominion was given to it.

7 “After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong. It had huge iron teeth; it was devouring, breaking in pieces, and trampling the residue with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns. 8 I was considering the horns, and there was another horn, a little one, coming up among them, before whom three of the first horns were plucked out by the roots. And there, in this horn, were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking [c]pompous words.

Vision of the Ancient of Days, The LORD GOD, and His SON

9 “I watched till thrones were [d]put in place,
And the Ancient of Days was seated;
His garment was white as snow,
And the hair of His head was like pure wool.
His throne was a fiery flame,
Its wheels a burning fire;
10 A fiery stream issued
And came forth from before Him.
A thousand thousands ministered to Him;
Ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him.
The [e]court was seated,
And the books were opened.
11 “I watched then because of the sound of the [f]pompous words which the horn was speaking; I watched till the beast was slain, and its body destroyed and given to the burning flame. 12 As for the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away, yet their lives were prolonged for a season and a time.

13 “I was watching in the night visions,
And behold, One like the Son of Man,
Coming with the clouds of heaven!
He came to the Ancient of Days,
And they brought Him near before Him.
14 Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom,
That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him.
His dominion is an everlasting dominion,
Which shall not pass away,
And His kingdom the one
Which shall not be destroyed.

Daniel’s Visions Interpreted

15 “I, Daniel, was grieved in my spirit [g]within my body, and the visions of my head troubled me. 16 I came near to one of those who stood by, and asked him the truth of all this. So he told me and made known to me the interpretation of these things: 17 ‘Those great beasts, which are four, are four [h]kings which arise out of the earth. 18 But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever.’

19 “Then I wished to know the truth about the fourth beast, which was different from all the others, exceedingly dreadful, with its teeth of iron and its nails of bronze, which devoured, broke in pieces, and trampled the residue with its feet; 20 and the ten horns that were on its head, and the other horn which came up, before which three fell, namely, that horn which had eyes and a mouth which spoke [i]pompous words, whose appearance was greater than his fellows.

21 “I was watching; and the same horn was making war against the saints, and prevailing against them, 22 until the Ancient of Days came, and a judgment was made in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came for the saints to possess the kingdom.

23 “Thus he said:

‘The fourth beast shall be
A fourth kingdom on earth,
Which shall be different from all other kingdoms,
And shall devour the whole earth,
Trample it and break it in pieces.
24 The ten horns are ten kings
Who shall arise from this kingdom.
And another shall rise after them;
He shall be different from the first ones,
And shall subdue three kings.
25 He shall speak pompous words against the Most High,
Shall persecute[j] the saints of the Most High,
And shall intend to change times and law.
Then the saints shall be given into his hand
For a time and times and half a time.

26 ‘But the court shall be seated,
And they shall take away his dominion,
To consume and destroy it forever.

27
Then the kingdom and dominion,
And the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven,
Shall be given to the people, the saints of the Most High.
His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
And all dominions shall serve and obey Him.’

28 “This is the end of the [k]account. As for me, Daniel, my thoughts greatly troubled me, and my countenance changed; but I kept the matter in my heart.”

The Greek word translated "saved" doesn't always refer to retribution and/or
perdition. For example:

Matt 14:30 . . But when Peter saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and
beginning to sink, he cried, saying: Lord, save me!

John 12:27 . . Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save
me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.

It's a common Greek word underlying the scenes where Jesus cured folks of
various maladies, for example:

Matt 9:20-21 . . And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue
of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his
garment: for she said within herself: If I may but touch his garment, I shall
be whole.

Mark 5:22-23 . .There cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by
name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet, and besought him greatly,
saying: My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and
lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.

In other words; sometimes the Greek word for save pertains to rescue,
protection, preservation, and/or providence; and has a much wider
application than only matters pertaining to Heaven and Hell.

Who is "he"?

What is "endured"?

When is the "end"?

Where does this happen?

Why does "saved" depend on enduring?

Dear atpollard,
To understand what Christ was saying concerning the "end" in Mat 24:13-14, a person must have an correct understanding of what Christ is teaching in Matthew chapter 24.

All the "end-time" prophecies of Christ are teaching about the spiritual events that led an Elect person to their moment of conversion. The spiritual events described in Mat 24 have been happening to all the Elect since the church became apostate (consumed by wolves, Acts 20:29-31) near the end of the 1st century.

Christ's end-time prophecies are not teaching about outward, one-time events that occur at the literal end of this age. That is a carnal understanding of what Christ is teaching with His end-time prophecies.

With this in mind, when does the "end" come to a person? Consider what Paul says below:

1Cor 10:11 Now all these things happened to them as types, and have been written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come.

If the "end" occurs when a person dies or at the end of this literal age, then what Paul said above makes no sense.

Paul also makes this statement concerning when the "end" comes:

Heb 9:28 So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time (second coming of Christ), not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

Paul says that salvation occurs when Christ appears a second time. But other scriptures say that a person is saved during their lifetime. So which is it? Was Paul wrong in Heb 9:28? Absolutely not. What is wrong is the common understanding of what end-time prophecy (includes the second coming of Christ) actually teaches.

For a person to be saved (converted) during their lifetime, Christ must come to them TWO times before they die. To understand how this is true, a person must understand the pathway to salvation.

The pathway to salvation begins when Christ comes to a unbeliever and freely gives them the Early Rain of the Spirit. With the Spirit, the unbeliever becomes a believer and enters the church. However, the Early Rain of the Spirit will only give a person their faith in Christ and certain spiritual gifts. In other words, a new believer (a babe) will remain carnally minded, spiritually blind and unconverted. In this condition, the believer will begin their time of waiting for Christ to return to convert them. When Christ comes the second time, Christ will pour out the Latter Rain of the Spirit on the believer, followed by judgment (Day of the Lord). When these spiritual events occur, the ends of the ages (the "end") come upon the person and they are converted. This is the "end" that Christ mentions in Mat 24:13-14.

Consider what Paul said to the Corinthians concerning the "end":

1Cor 1:6 Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you: 7 So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: 8 Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

For a person to be converted from a child of the devil into a child of God, Christ must give a person both the Early and Latter Rains of the Spirit, followed by judgment (the Day of the Lord). At this point in time, the Corinthian church had received the Early Rain of the Spirit and were only "called to be saints":

1Cor 1:2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:

Because the Corinthian church had not received the Latter Rain of the Spirit, they were still "waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ" to confirm their elect status with the Latter Rain of the Spirit. After Christ gives a believer the Latter Rain of the Spirit, they will be made "blameless" when judgment (the Day of the Lord) commences. After Christ's judgment is complete, the "ends of the ages" will have come upon them and they will be converted.

The story of the woman taken in adultery (John 8:3-8) is a "type" which confirms the truth that only after a person has received both the Early and Latter Rains of the Spirit will they no longer be condemned by the Law.

With what I have presented above, here are the answers to your questions:

Who is "he"? All the Elect since the church became apostate in the 1st century.

What is "endured"? The Elect believer must endure (not die) until Christ returns with the Latter Rain, followed by the Day of the Lord. In other words, the Elect believer's days are shortened so that they endure until Christ "comes again" to them. For the "many" who are called to be saints but are not chosen, they must wait until the final age for Christ's second coming and salvation.

When is the end? The "end" occurs at the moment of conversion.

Where does this happen? It happens "within" the Elect believer.

Why does saved depend on "enduring"? Because salvation requires the Elect believer to endure until Christ returns with the Latter Rain of the Spirit and judgment (fire). This conversion event is what John the Baptist mentions below:

Mat 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit, and with Fire (judgment): 12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat (the Elect) into the garner (the Kingdom of Heaven); but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

Who is "he"?

What is "endured"?

When is the "end"?

Where does this happen?

Why does "saved" depend on enduring?

Well keeping this in context and not using it out of its proper place we conclude some bold facts.

1. This is for Jews
2. This is during th etime of the tribulation (last 7 years)
3. He is any believer
4. Not taking the mark . for in that time no mark= death.
5. The end is when Jesus returns
6. In context, it happens in Israel and maybe the surrounding areas.
7. Well there is hypotheses regarding salvation during the trib period or better the second half of the trib. The mark of the beast will be instituted and all the world will be required to take the mark or die. The angel goes global and warns whoever takes the mark will be damned forever. So it is possible that salvation can be lost in the trib if one changes and takes the mark. I personally believe in eternal security, but based on these passages, it is possible in the trib times salvation may be lost.

Why does "saved" depend on enduring?

Who? The matryrs
What? Persecution and execution
When? Til the end of their short lives
Where? Everywhere that those who were sent go to
Why? What is in view is the special resurrection that is granted to martyrs... they are resurrected first and allowed to live out their physical lives... fair recompense for having lost those lives for Christ and the gospel.
