I would like to know if anyone can find one reference in the Old Testament where Election refers to salvation. I was challenged with this but could not find anywhere in the OT where election was a synonym for salvation. in the OT Election is simply being chosen to a position of privileged position. Oddly enough, the same definition is true in the NT.

For example, in Eph 1.4 says we are chosen in him to be holy and blameless. Also, Christ is called the Elect and because we are chosen IN HIM we share his election. Because Christ is holy, we share his holiness. Because he is righteous, we share his righteousness. It is important to see that we are chosen IN HIM and not IN ADAM.

Judas Iscariot is one of the chosen, but he was not a believer. Also, Israel is God's chosen people, and not all Jews are saved.

The problem as I see it is that we have been told that election is the same as salvation, when that does not hold up in Scripture. You will find people elected in the OT, but none to salvation. The same is true in the NT.

One other aspect to election, is that election is not to chosen while also God is not selecting others. The tribe of Levi in the OT were chosen as the priestly line, but he didn't deselect the other tribes.

Try to find one reference in the OT where it explicitly states that election is the same as salvation.
