my Q was mostly about the Missouri thing, idc really about what Christian professors state tbh

The Missouri things is a long convoluted story. In super short: LDS Christians set up in Missouri in the 1830's, and the other Christian neighbors did not like it at all. On both sides there was a lot of mobs, rage, some deaths, and the Missouri Governor issued the "Mormon Extermination Order" kicking all Mormons out of the state (totally illegal).

well, heard the term all my life and still had to go look it up, and having read the def i still dont know what that means? existentialism...hmm, dunno about the denying of objective values, or the disparaging of scientific thought (or whatever it said) so i guess "no"

although if those were better qualified i could say maybe i guess; "objective values" tend to manifest within a culture, right, meaning "to the exclusion of others?" not really so objective after all, iow?

He also said that our imagination were given to us so we could understand God. We can understand things that exist in our imagination but don't in the physical world. Man has to imagine how God is since can't see anything like Him in the physical world. Comparing God to this or that is idolatry to some degree; and by erasing false thoughts, we come closer to having a blank mind -- and the closer we are to understanding God. That might explain why Israel was told not to make images. . . . Let's not even think God can be like anything "seen" with our physical eyes.

Voltaire said men create God in their own image. I can see why he said that. It's mostly true. And we're back on topic. I think whoever invented the idea of people burning eternally in hellfire likely would like to see that happen to people he didn't like. It says more about the person who invented this idea about God than it says about God.

So did God create man in His own image? I think so, but we're apt to try to create Him in ours. If I hate, then I imagine God hates. I have fallen myself and imagine God fell with me. I have a wrong idea about God -- and about myself. If we could erase all our wrong ideas, all the bad impulses of the wicked heart, we would have pure hearts and know what God is. Idolatry hurts us a lot more than it hurts God!

of (i have to assume) our egos?

ive actually come to suspect that it is obscured on purpose, and left simply "overcome," in order to hide wisdom from the wise (ego worshippers iow, the ego bound, whatever)
