I used to wear a stud in my "Left" ear to identify myself as being "Straight as an arrow".@Dave L I guess you never went through an ear piercing phase...?
So would it still fit in the hole if you tried to wear it?I used to wear a stud in my "Left" ear to identify myself as being "Straight as an arrow".
Probably not.So would it still fit in the hole if you tried to wear it?
I don't find it problematic when young people go through an ear piercing phase (though the enlarged holes I doubt the wisdom of).Probably not.
Sounds like you haven't tried to put it in lately... :)Probably not.
Thanks for your vote, BTW! (And I think I can guess how you voted!)You are spot on. Neither sons have pierced anything, both have tats.
It's been over 20 years I think.Sounds like you haven't tried to put it in lately... :)
Shows just how well established the custom had already become for both genders, decades back. I thinkit's sensible now for sons as well as daughters growing up, if they want to do it, to be allowed to do it confidently and in a matter of fact way. It's been over 20 years I think.
Do you think it's both a phase that many men and boys grow into and then also often grow out of?It's been over 20 years I think.
Most of it was the circles I ran in.Do you think it's both a phase that many men and boys grow into and then also often grow out of?
I guess peer pressure does explain it for some; it's probably best for parents to regard it as a rather straightforward and benign peer pressure custom/rite of passage. Most of it was the circles I ran in.
PS:In fact it became so widely established that in some neighbourhoods it would have been an exception for boys who would play ball in the street not to wear earrings; ear piercing was simply something they expected to do and something that their parents expected to let them do. In some areas it still is this way. So I think it's probably used for responsible people in churches with young people to be aware of this, that it is indeed well established and benign and not some kind of aberration (if this makes sense?)It's been over 20 years I think.
