When I owned a car (automatic), that stick on the steering wheel just let you shift from park to drive or reverse. Once you are in drive, you don't need to do anything... unless you want to reverse.
Back in '81, my vehicle was a 3 speed with clutch, and the gear shift on the column/steering wheel instead on on the floor. It was a 70's something blue pick-up truck...loved it!

I own a truck ( 2012 4x4 z71 ) and a 2016 ecoline van 150 ). I want a 4x4 e250 with a slight lift to use as a camping off road van. I’m in Alabama but sometimes I drive to Washington or into Mexico or Canada and will spend 2-4 weeks living out of it and camping to hike places and etc.
Sounds great!
My wife and I, we like to camp & hike, too. We’re getting into foraging, also.

We haven’t done the camping “2-4 weeks” thing yet, lol.

We plan on doing something like that, in 2026…. heading out west to Arizona then up to Yosemite.

We love Mexico! Have you ever visited and explored any cenotes? They’re in the Yucatán area.

We also live in Alabama, in the eastern central part.

Have a good one!

I started driving at 16 but I didn't go get my license until, 22? 23? I got a mess of no-ops tickets during that time. I used to drive my car illegally to court for the no-ops tickets, lol. Then drive away after court with no license.

So is it true or not that there is a driving gene and women didn't get it because the driving gene is in the mans ribs on the other side from where the rib was taken from Adam to make Eve?

Hi Nancy ,are you still a confident driver?

My confidence was not good when I had to drive to Newbury to visit my Son, as I never had a sat nav, plus didn’t know the way, it’s the not knowing the route that puts me off, as you know there are so many cars on the roads, plus all those darn huge roundabouts and dual carriageways.....motorways I will never drive on, scare me silly they do.

London is also a place I would never drive in..there are a lot of cyclists in London.

Reading was another place I drove in...never ever again,

Ive owned a few of those. "3-4" speeds.

Two that i really enjoyed..

A Red SAAB
A Black BMW

The "Bimmer" was a V6 325E...... Gloss black (my favorite color) and it had white "Corinthian Leather" seats.

The "cool factor" generated by this BMW was an "11 out of 10".

I drive an SUV...so, does that count?

Is it 4 wheel drive? That's pretty much the kicker.

I drive a 1995 F250 that has every factory upgrade available for it except two? It's a 4X4, it has the tow package. It has the off road package (!), it's a supercab so it has a bed beind the seat, and it has an F350 suspension system it's a 1 ton truck with an enhanced gvwr because of the suspension. This truck is a beast! It has a 351w/5.8 so I can work on it! and even the tool boxes on the back of it. I decodes the vin number and learned all this stuff. It was originally a special order truck from the city of Colorado Springs and they bought it new. It even came with an added orange flashing light, lol! The city cares meticulously for it's vehicles while they own them and I wound up with it used.

No wonder they was selling it, by the time I got it it was 15 yrs old or more. So the suspension was gone by then and I replaced all that and put in a new clutch and some small things like both gas tanks and fuel pumps and a heater core. It does great for me. I've never been stuck, I can work on it. If it gets a scratch on it I don't have to cry (Lol), and it's a great sleeper truck, no one wants to carjack a 30 year old pickup truck, lol!

Oh and did I mention that it was the Lord that gave it to me and brought it to me? He did. I remember when I first seen it I seen the space behind the seat and made the joke I'll never be homeless now, I got a bed! I didn't know it at the time but circumstances would see me sleeping in that truck for two months about a year later! So it was an absolute Blessing from God! Praise the Lord!!!!

FWD.

The AWD's are great but that repair bill is : AWESOME...

The guy in the shop that replaced my clutch and springs got a good look at the underside and told me that if I had to rebuild that truck, I'd need 70 grand for parts! (Whoa).

I finally saved up enough for a new set of tires all around. Those truck tires are over the roof in price but I wanted the right tires so I had to bite the bullet.

Yes, I drive a car, it’s a 2010 model Kia and it has 308,000 miles on it. For the past 8 years. I’ve also invested in an electric bicycle it has 315 miles on it, and use it to get back and forth to work, @Ritajanice. I didn’t get my drivers license until I was 25 years old.
In my neighborhood in So. CAL we had go carts with 3.5 hp motors going about 35mph on the streets and dirt fields at 10-12yrs old, we had dirt bikes etc

13-14yrs old we would hitch hike to the beach, sometimes getting lost at a local party for the night with the beach Boys playing on the 8 track in the packed van with bean bags for sitting, keg of beer and tie dyed tapestry hanging behind the driver

At like 14-15yrs old we had the Ole auctioned off 3 wheel mail delivery cart with a 750cc motorcycle engine in it for beer runs at the drive through dairy, then at like 15-16 we had a 63VW community ride for runs and going to the beach

I hung out with older guys 16-20yr olds, it was a different world in the 60's-70's in So Cal, cops would give a warning and you parked your wheels for a day or so then back at it

Things have changed, I got picked up by the Jesus Bus decade's ago, it was the (So Cal Costa Mesa) Calvary Chapel Chuck Smith scene of the 70's-80's Christian concerts, Benny Hester, Bob Bennet, Mustard Seed Faith, 2nd Chapter Acts, Love Song, on and on, the Jesus Movement, Peace, Love, And Jesus!

Now it's a Truck and 18ft Fishing Boat chasing around fish off the So Cal coast for entertainment, fill the freezer with rockfish, dolphins chasing the boat playing, tuna boiling on bait 10 miles out with jigs flying for the kill, even hooked a 80ft Fin Whale whale while sword fishing 6 months ago 8 miles out while using a 2ft giant squid for bait and the Whale came out of no where and inhaled it "No Joke" we cut the line and called it a day

Jesus Is The Lord "Forever"!

My mechanic is so good to me, he always takes me home after I have driven to the garage, then after he has done the service he comes and picks me up,I get great personal service, been with him for over 20 yrs...he couldn’t do the horn and kindly patched up the wing mirror, he will do both after the New Year, as the part dealers are all closed for the holidays, he did a great service on the car, £200 in total..then I gave him a nice Christmas box, we were both very happy.....Thank you Lord for Dave my lovely mechanic.
