I have in my ahem "old age " :p lol , found out a preventive to tartar build up on your teeth that must be scraped and pried off of your teeth with a sharp instrument with much leverage applied , no fun indeed !
You must FLOSS your teeth at least once a day . I use a flosser with a handle .
Before I finally started flossing everyday I used to sit and the dental hygienist would spend 30 minutes or more scrapping and prying on my teeth .
I have been flossing everyday now for quite a few years and a finally for the first time in about 5 years went to get my teeth cleaned . I expected the usual 30 minutes of ouch but instead it was maybe 2 minutes , I was shocked to say the least .
Here is picture of the flosser I use .

I brush and floss after meals and snacks.

Found a new dentist and his hygienist used a new thing to clean my teeth... it's a high pressure water device... painless. Afterwards she only had to pick off a couple of small pieces of tartar. The water device got nearly all of it off.

This dentist has all of the latest equipment...
