"Study shows group most likely to identify as 'low-attending Evangelicals'"

"A new study looking at church attendance among Evangelicals reveals that conservatives are the most likely to identify as 'low-attending Evangelicals.'"

"Broken down by political affiliation, 5.5% of conservative self-identified Evangelicals said they either "seldom" or "never" attend church services in 2008. That figure rose to 12.6% in 2023. By contrast, the percentage of self-identified moderate Evangelicals who "seldom" or "never" go to church increased from 5% to 8.5%, while the share of self-described liberal Evangelicals with similarly low church attendance rates saw the smallest change over the years, jumping from 3.5% to 4.5%."

"Burge explained that the gap between the percentage of liberal and conservative Evangelicals who either rarely or never go to church increased from 2 percentage points in 2008 to 8 percentage points in 2023. "This is pretty compelling evidence that this phenomenon is being driven, in no small part, by politics — not religion," he wrote."

Is it merely conservative politics, or at the foundation, an abandonment of a biblical world view, from another perspective.

Thank you for your post.

The attached article is confusing to me. Not clear what distinguishes a conservative vs moderate vs liberal Evangelical.

Later there is a correlation between college graduates vs high school only. OK, but we also know that a number of college graduates leave the church, but return later in life.

And then there are the large percentages of Evangelicals who have supported President Trump in 2016 vs 2020. Obviously not tracking with what is perceived by “conservative” Evangelical.

What exactly does this analysis have to do with attracting the right people, for the right reasons, to Evangelical churches?

Blessings!

That is true, Bob. How does each self-identify themselves? People even perceive various attributes of humans in differing ways. The polls, and various articles like this that distinguish college graduates as if they are more intelligent sticks in my craw. The main difference I see is too many college and university students are merely brain washed or indoctrinated into leftist propaganda. The media is largely made up of this sort, so they indeed consider themselves smarter and view the college grads in polls smarter as well.

I been going to different churches for the last 35 years. There has been a definite change in the last 10 years. There are churches that do not affiliate with any main denomination. They call themselves a church with no Cross in sight. One Baptist Church I just left has no Cross on the building. The close for school, summer hours are cut. The lack of bible knowledge nowadays is deafening.
