Yep. I'm no master, but I'm a decent enough plumber.
I am a big disappointment to my dad. He was a Master Plumber and wanted me to be one too, Lol! But instead of taking the plumbing test, I took the Mechanical test for HVAC. At first in Plumbing in plumbing I learned it and learned how to solder copper pipe (and even wire in dishwashers electrical, woo hoo! Lol) I caught on that the A/C guys got more respect than plumbers, lol. That's the smart trade so to speak. (Well, we know where the red wire goes, Lol) So when I was between jobs and plumbers werent hiring I went to the Heat & Air shop and got a job as a helper. It didnt take long because they was busy and out me right on installing them. Good experience but bleh compared to the service guys! All they have to do is go out there and play with wires which is easy work. I was buying tools like mad. I knew I would need them. And it didnt take long to catch on to controls.
The guy who took all the magic out of electric for me told me...Do you think you could figure out if I light switch was bad with an Ohmmeter/voltage tester? Well, I think I;m naturally mechanical. I grew up fixing my own cars. Well, everything on a furnace or A/C unit is either a light switch or a Load Device. Some light switches flow electric, some flow gas, some flow water (Boilers). Is the light switch good or bad? Test it. So I learned how to troubleshoot controls and change parts. But I still largely had no clue about electric circuits beyond testing for functionality. (A glorifed parts changer, Lol!)
Then after we moved back to C. Springs from Ft Collins I had a lapse of being unlicensed so that would take some time to sort out and retest again and so forth, so I got another job and that was right when NATE Testing first came out and that company wanted to have all NATE certified Technicians, so I jumped on it. I told you about that. That was a hard Test!
The Mechanical Contractor Test was easy for me. I smoked it. My first try I didnt think I would pass the test, but I would have my score and know how close I was! And I smoked it. I got a 93 on it. It was all about building code and I worked as an installer long enough to get turned down by inspectors, so I learned real good what the code is so I passed it easy. I could prolly pass the electrical test for contractor. I know electrical code too. I did one house new construction electrical wiring and set the panel. It was a homeowner permit. It passed the first time.
I'm rambling. Retired, lol.
