Becoming a Grateful and Content Wife

The serpent of Genesis got Eve to fall by getting her to fixate on the one thing she wasn't allowed to have.

In doing so, she forgot about all she already possessed ---a beautiful garden, Heavenly Father, and husband who cherished her. All she could see was the forbidden fruit.

A Christian wife rejects the idea of "if only" and only being blessed at some future point. She recognizes she is blessed now.


Now because she knows the Lord. Now because she has a husband to pour grace upon and pray for. Now because we live in such a comfortable era with so much technological advancement.

It is up to us to count our blessings and put a stop to all complaining. (Phillipians 2:14 KJV)

Venting does not work. It only spreads misery. It is God's will that we give thanks in all circumstances. And as a wife, this is a superpower that will guard you from being tempted to seek other situations than your own.

One common issue I see that messes with wives contentment is the pressure of holidays.

We tend to have higher expectations around these days even without meaning to.

But having a peaceful home is so much better than having everything go your way on Valentine's day or Christmas or Easter.

I have to check my attitude around days like that.

Being a content wife may cause others to look at you strangely.

Ive gotten some comments basically saying I should have approached 4th of July differently and demanded my husband see fireworks with me instead of letting it go when my husband asked to relax since he was tired from work.

But loving your husband as a wife is part of the call all Christians have of loving neighbor and enemy alike.

Wisdom is pure and peaceable willing to yield.

The problem with demanding your way is that it never satisfies even when you get it.

I know these years that I get to be home with my children are some I will treasure for the rest of my life.

My husband is a great man and he forged a life for us with blood, sweat, and tears.

They say you don't know what you've got till its gone. But I think its even better to recognize what you have while you have it.

I see wives leaving their marriages and homes all the time.

The grass isn't greener on the other side. The sweetest place on earth can be home if you have eyes to see it.

I have a critical spirit sometimes that I need to stop.

There is true greatness in service. A lot of my happiest times in my day are often my busiest.

There's dinner to prepare, little ones to care for, and maybe husband or roommate just coming in the door.

I realize Im happy. But why?

I forgot about myself and just cared about my family getting what they needed. Blessed self forgetfulness.

I missed out on a lot of happiness in the past by not seeing service as a blessing.

Today, I am deeply grateful for my husband.

He praises me when I do well.

He challenges me to truly succeed in what I do.

He works so hard to provide and to a degree thats above whats required.

He brings energy to our home at the end of a long day to help me with the little ones.

He's my friend.

He points me to the Lord.

He is protective and possessive of me.

He controls his emotions and channels them for my good.

He is a great father to our children.

He is Godly and mature.

He comes through when I need help.

You recognise and appreciate the Love that surrounds you Wyona.

When I was your age, I didn’t recognise love...the enemy blinded me to it, long story...I recognise Love now because God is Love..

The love my children didn’t receive from me....I’m now making it up to one of them...by Loving on my grandchildren....my Son has forgiven me and he Loves me loving on his children.

I’m so happy for you that you have such a wonderful husband and children...they also have a wonderful Mother and wife.....you’ve been so blessed by the Lord.

I struggle at times to be grateful. I have a lot of tasks to keep up with as a wife and Mom of two littles under two.

I try to remember that.

A. I have help through my husband and his parents.

B. My work will never be this hard after this season. My husband must keep up gis work until he retires.

C. People out there desperately want what I have and would give anything for it if they could.

D. God rewards the unseen unsung labor.
