so, im quite sure i heard this in the church once and i read the verse, but now i cant find any mentions of sugar? it just calls for christians to be salt, but doesnt explain what being sugar is like- fermenting, rotting, losing its zest.... ???

"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot" (Matthew 5:13, NIV)

Salt can be cleansing and healing acting as a sort of disinfectant and it also can add flavour and intensify other flavours.

I don't think such scripture exists. It's probably a saying we hear repeated all the time in church but isn't actually in the Bible, like "Cleanliness is next to Godliness" or "God helps those who help themselves."

Have you found honey? Eat only what you need, That you not have it in excess and vomit it. ---Prov 29:16

I've never heard that about sugar being in the Bible, and I just ran a search in the Revised Standard Version of the Bible, and the word "sugar" is not found anywhere.

i think eating honey is very silly, the average beekeeper is left confused when their entire beehive dies after robbing them from their food
but i totally agree any excess of anything is poison

yeah seems its just christians who added a bit of sugar to the verse, pun intended
it should be in the bible- its a great example of modern society. rotten and sweetened for those who cannot bear the salt
