When someone asks for prayer is it necessary for that person to give details concerning the prayer request before you would pray for them?Why do I ask? Well, it was done to a member on another forum. No! Because Christ already taught us that God knows our needs before we ask him. Matthew 6:5-13 (King James Version) 5.And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6.But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. 7.But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8.Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. 9.After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10.Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11.Give us this day our daily bread. 12.And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13.And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. I don't believe there is any specific ways to pray. My family and I are not eloquent in praying but we do our best to talk(pray) to YHWH. Like you say God knows our heart and He fills in our missing part.hitomi

I don't believe there is any specific ways to pray. My family and I are not eloquent in praying but we do our best to talk(pray) to YHWH. Like you say God knows our heart and He fills in our missing part.hitomi
i dont think details are necessary unless the person is trying to find a specific scripture to help. Albeit i dont really think it is necessary.

No, I do not believe details are necessary. Sometimes it's too personal to want to give details, and God already knows the details. That's the wonderful about an omniscient God. You really don't have to tell Him anything, because He already knows.

It is not necessary to mention in detail, because God knows all, but I believe we can and should, because God will respond to our prayers in the detail we have mentioned.

It is not necessary to mention in detail, because God knows all, but I believe we can and should, because God will respond to our prayers in the detail we have mentioned.

I've been on the message boards and forums long enough to have seen mischievous jokers come along from time to time asking for prayers to "help my relationship with someone I deeply love", only for it to turn out that it's a gay or lesbian couple..Also, someone might say "please pray to help me feel closer to my God", who it turns out is Odin or Zeus etc..No doubt these people get a kick out of suckering Christians into praying for them and they no doubt have a good laugh when they tell their pals..

Yes mockers...Only fairly recently a lady posted on a British AOL message board announcing how happy she was to have just got married, so most of the Christians on the board immediately began congratulating her, wishing her marriage every success for the future, hoping God would bless them and so on, but I smelt a fish and looked up her profile, and saw she was a lesbian who had just had a "same-sex marriage" with her lesbian partner, there was even a "wedding" picture of the happy couple taken during the ceremony...

Since there is only one true God, I would naturally pray that they would become closer to Him. As I always do, I pray first that if they don't know Him as Saviour that they will accept Him. Then I pray for the need they requested. I also add the words "Thy will be done." God will not bless someone who is trusting in a false god, and He is never fooled by people's deceitfulness.

As there is only one true God and women and men cannot marry the same sexs then it is really like giving someone a placebo tablet for a paracetamol.It has no effect and the Lord knows the truth. I believe when asked for prayer we should give it. As Christ said, God knows before we ask, and we ask with a true heart for the people. Our motives are innocent so there is nothing to worry about, But they condemn themselves by their actions of asking. I find that sad.

An offshoot question that could be discussed is - "Should we pray for someone even if they or their family don't want us to?"For example a year or two ago I was surfing the net and happened to enter a computer game site and noticed the boss was saying his wife was seriously ill, needing a heart-lung transplant.So I mailed him to ask if he'd like me and my Christian pals to pray for her, but to my surprise he politely replied saying -"No thanks,she's got all the people she needs around her helping her", so I went on my way and lost touch..What do you make of that?I mean, should we have prayed for her regardless even without his permission?And why did he refuse prayers in the first place anyway?Beats me..

Yes, I would pray for someone if they didn't want me to, but not out loud. I would pray silently, and they wouldn't even know it. I pray for many people who don't know I am praying for them.

If someone prays to a non-existent god, his prayers won't be answered since there's no one there to answer him.
