Hello all!
This week the Catholic liturgical calendar began reading John chapter 6 and will be doing so over the next few weeks.
Today's gospel reading:
John 6: 1-15
I am open to a discussion of these texts and will seek to present my understanding of this mystery..
I will attach today's sermon from Bp. Barron who is far more eloquent than I.
Where Heaven and Earth Meet - Word on Fire Sermon
He raises a question early on: why is the last supper narrative not present in John?
My personal opinion is that John, writing to communities already very familiar with the earlier gospels and the institution narrative of the 'breaking of the bread' that they celebrated;
and facing the rising gnostic heresies, rather provides the theological understanding of this great Mystery!
He purposefully lays out a narrative that is lived in the liturgical practice of the Church, as the perpetual offering of the New Covenant is celebrated.
Everywhere Christ giving Himself for us, and to us, uniting us with Himself!
The Groom giving Himself to His bride, and she receiving Him, the two are made one flesh, one Spirit..
All are welcome to come to the Wedding Feast of the Lamb of God!
Pax et Bonum
