"Can two walk together, except they be agreed?" Amos 3.3
Food for thought...
Thank-you!Can one walk with the Lord except they be in agreement on mercy and forgiveness? (Amos 3:4-12)
[4] Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he have taken nothing? [5] Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin is for him? shall one take up a snare from the earth, and have taken nothing at all? [6] Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the Lord hath not done it ? [7] Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. [8] The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord God hath spoken, who can but prophesy? [9] Publish in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold the great tumults in the midst thereof, and the oppressed in the midst thereof. [10] For they know not to do right, saith the Lord , who store up violence and robbery in their palaces. [11] Therefore thus saith the Lord God ; An adversary there shall be even round about the land; and he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be spoiled. [12] Thus saith the Lord ; As the shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damascus in a couch.
Thank-you!
This is the King James phrasing of 3.3:
"Can two walk together, except they be agreed?"
The Pharisees and Sadducees didn't believe the same things and the Lord Jesus knew it and framed his response accordingly.A House divided falls? Acts 23:7
[7] And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.
Many times “divisions” arose and weakened the crowd. Non-agreement. How can two walk together if they do not agree. He said to be of “one mind” the mind of Christ. To be of one accord. Every joint Fitted together.
Luke 11:17-19
[17] But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth. [18] If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub. [19] And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges.
What happened there?
The Pharisees and Sadducees didn't believe the same things and the Lord Jesus knew it and framed his response accordingly.
I think the point is that true, spiritual agreement needs to be doctrinal, otherwise it's just papering over the cracks. What about us(speaking in general). The multitude of strongly held differing beliefs never in agreement?

Amen! but charity in a Biblical sense is not doctrine-free; it is not truth-free.Not doctrines...Charity.? Colossians 3:13-15 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. [14] And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. [15] And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

It looks like this sad state of affairs will exist until the Second Coming of Christ. But there is really no need for divisions if we go strictly by what is revealed in the Bible. What about us(speaking in general). The multitude of strongly held differing beliefs never in agreement?
Individuals and companies practising Acts 2.42 can expect to continue in this way until the Lord comes. The link is always first and foremost Godward and as we keep 'looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith' we can be by God's grace a functioning microcosm of Acts 2.42, and don;t need to be saddled with the baggage - as it were - of other ppl's ecclesiastical apostasy, in all its diversity. It looks like this sad state of affairs will exist until the Second Coming of Christ. But there is really no need for divisions if we go strictly by what is revealed in the Bible.

I guess the point is that the aim of one big organizational church conglomerate is illusory and unScriptural anyway.Makes me consider the Tower of Babel and how the confusion stopped them from building up.

Best for each local congregation to look to the Lord directly.
Great text, and relevant to the discussion! :)1 Peter 2:6
[6] Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

= if everyone believes like you............It looks like this sad state of affairs will exist until the Second Coming of Christ. But there is really no need for divisions if we go strictly by what is revealed in the Bible.
