A Personal Relationship with the Lord?

Are we supposed to have a personal relationship with the Lord? Maybe this helps answer that question:

[39] You search the scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness to me;
[40] yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life. John 5:39-40 RSV

Yes of course,

John 15:5 - "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing."
Matthew 11:28-30 - "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
Revelation 3:20 - "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me."
John 10:14 - "I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own."

Hi Bob, I believe so. In fact, it seems to be something that is pretty important for us to have, if eternal life and living out the balance of eternity with Him, instead of apart from Him, is what we want, yes?

For instance,

Matthew 7​

22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ ​

23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never ~knew~ you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’​

John 17​

3 This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.​

The same Greek word that is translated above as both "knew" and "know" speaks of person who is much more than just a casual acquaintance, much more than someone who you simply know of or know certain things about.
